How Painful is this programme

It's an insult to kids' intelligence.

My daughter watched it once (I turn it off now when it comes on), and started calling her bike a "ninky noo" or whatever they call it.

It's a step backwards for kids.

The person who thought this tripe up.... no actually the person who commissioned this tripe needs shooting.

It's for children up to 3!

It meant to be a calming show for little children to watch before they go to bed. It's the last show in the CBeebies bedtime hour. It's colourful and uplifting, whilst lulling them to sleep.

It's not in anyway insulting!

I'm even older than you, Iok, and I think it's adorable. Oh, did I mention I don't even HAVE kids????? LOL

What I don't get is this - if it is a programme for children to calm down before they go to bed, why is it on 5 times a blooming day!

One thing I can't stand is intolerance.

reply

Doesn't stop my 14-year-old sister and her friends from watching it...! I've even taken to referring to them as the Tombliboos! lol (not in public, mind you)

reply

Well that just shows how clever you are, it is well outside the age range for your child... I'm not going to explain WHY because that is an insult to YOUR intelligence, but my 2 year old nephew loves it and adores the Tombliboo's - he calls them Hum Doo's - it's not meant to insult the intelligence of others, its meant to calm down children and get them into a sleepy mode before they go to bed.

Both me and my mother watch it because it reminds us of our Nephews who live far away from us, and because it is a good childrens programme, and I am 18 nearly 19 and my mother is a 47 year old woman.

Rufus Sewell and Elyes Gabel... Hmm such a hard decision!!

I used to watch this every day with my 2 year old sister, who would cry when it ended. I've since emigrated, and miss "Night Garden" more than I could possibly comprehend...so much so I'm considering shipping in the DVD. Tragic, I know...

The DVD will be out soon.

I finally saw an episode, and for the age it's aimed at, it's charming! In my youth we had 'The Clangers'. Pink knitted mice who lived under dustbin lids on the moon, and talked in whistles. Is this any sillier? I think not!

Ah, hell diddly-ding-dong crap!

I've just had a baby and she's now 8 weeks old and I watched it with her for the first time today. I was amazed at her reaction/responses. She paid a lot of attention to it and was smiling and gurgling and moving her arms and legs in reaction to the different sounds/songs etc.

I think it is fine for young babies and up to 2 or 3 years of age. I remember watching Morph on Take Hart and he didn't make sense but he was fun to watch and kids knew exactly what he was saying.

I don't know why it's on 5 times during the day,but baies & toddlers take naps during the day and go to sleep at night.!'m 39 & like some episodes. The very beginning of the show's good/I like the narrator's voice & some characters.

reply

Oh yes, it's sooooo patronising. I always get my 5 month old to watch Ibsen adaptations before bed or maybe a bit of Tarkovsky for light relief. How disappointing that he only looks sad and gurgles mournfully instead of presenting me with a series of dazzling insights and incisive analyses.

I quite agree. The programme's utter stupidity can only be harmful to children. It really is a disgrace, so unbelievably repetitive and completely inane. Whatever reason can such dumbing down be for? Night Garden makes me rage.
