Tombliboos' names

I can't believe I didn't notice at first that the names of the Tombliboos - Unn, Ooo and Eee - are childish pronunciations of the numbers 1, 2 and 3. Seems so obvious now...

While I'm here -
1) why do the Tombliboos have such immense toothbrushes when they only have teeny little mouths (and apparently no teeth)?

2) How funny would it have been if in the episode where Ooo was drinking everyone's pinky ponk juice, someone had replaced the pinky ponk juice with something alcoholic...? [cue malicious laughter]

3) Does anyone else find the 'tittifers' (birds) really annoying? Their songs are supposed to be soothing, but to me they sometimes sound utterly screechy and discordant. Also 'tittifer' is a stupid word. And what's the deal with getting kids to think a tree is called a 'ponk', anyway?!

Oh yeah. I didn't notice that myself until I read your post. Duh!

I think it's to remind kids in a very unsubtle way that they should brush their teeth. With smaller toothbrushes, perhaps it wouldn't be so obvious. They never use toothpaste though. Perhaps Colgate doesn't manufacture big enough tubes or didn't pay enough for a product placement.

Very. Especially if he then felt up Upsy-Daisy, took some E and danced about like an eejit before throwing up onto the floor of the Pinky-Ponk and being lobbed out from a great height for his troubles.

Whereas words like Tomliboo, Makka Pakka and Iggle Piggle are much more sensible ones? :) I think that the Tittifers looked like a great idea on paper and the graphic artists no doubt wet themselves at the thought of doing the animation but it probably didn't turn out quite as they expected.

Er, what? Must have missed that one. Besides the Pinky-Ponk looks more like a flying French tickler than a pink tree. Allegedly.

1) my imdb name's a cross between St*r (my usual pseudonym), Lani (Alanis Morissette's nickname) and my two favourite sci-fi characters, Trance Gemini from 'Andromeda' and Deanna Troi from 'Star Trek: The Next Generation".

2) The Tombliboos don't even use water when they clean their nonexistent teeth - neither does Makka Pakka when he goes around washing things with his "agga pang" (sponge). Maybe that's why nothing looks obviously different after Makka Pakka's given it an alleged scrub.

3) I'm sure in one episode the Pinky Ponk was flying towards a tree, and an alarm sounded, warning them of the oncoming tree, to which the narrator said something like "oh no - a ponk!" Maybe that idea was written out in later episodes as it'd be even more confusing than the programme already is. My sister watched an episode for the first time yesterday, and her response was essentially "WTF?!". Even my 6-year-old cousin thinks it's kind of silly...but it's an addictive kind of silliness where it's so weird it's compelling. [Apart from Upsy Daisy, the Tittifers and the Pontipines, that is. They're really irksome.]

OK, then!

1) Good explanation, but I still like your nick regardless! :)

2) Possibly, but water appears to be remarkably absent from ITNG for some reason ... perhaps because it's supposed to be a dream thing? For example, there's no water in any of the "rivers" under the bridge.

3) I'll take your word for it! However, even for three year olds, "tree" is no more difficult to pronounce than "ponk" surely. Then again, it's been quite a number of years since I wwas three so I might be wrong.

4) Given that Upsy Daisy spent a recent episode kissing everything - including the Pinky Ponk which "needed a kiss" in order for it to function - does this not mean that she's the epitome of 60's love? Discuss.

reply

I'm not proposing to discuss the subject at length, as putting "discuss" on the end of a sentence gives me scary memories of exams and timed essays, but based on your comment (no. 4 above) and other things I've read online, Upsy Daisy is either a hippychick or weirdly promiscuous with attractions to inanimate objects as well as living things. Either way, she's still really annoying and a dreadful singer, who has a pointlessly inflatable skirt (unless she's drowning - if they had water there - in which case it might actually save her life...)

You can tell it's a quiet morning at work, right...?

reply

Yeah, same here. Anyhow, you hit the nail on the head there. Upsy Daisy is indeed a super-promiscuous hippychick with an inflatable skirt, rather like a drunken Nelly Furtado on acid. Except that as you correctly pointed out, Upsy Daisy can't sing but unfortunately for the rest of the gang, she thinks that she can.

God knows why she wanted to kiss the Ninky-Nonk. She's no idea where it's been for a start. Could be loads of yucky stuff on it after driving through all those hedges.

Water seems remarkably absent APART FROM the great big ocean at the start and the end when Iggle Piggle falls asleep in his little boat. Just saying..............

still looks like a tit, though

3) What's a tittifer? Sounds like a dirty joke...

reply

Tittifer is the birds that sing throughout the show and then right at the end before story time.

 My niece and nephew found this hilarious.
A bird sings and the mountain's silence deepens.
