Phantoms did it better??

When I started watching this, all I could think of was how similar it felt to Phantoms with Ben Affleck. That movie came out a while ago and seemed similar and a bit creepier to me. Am I the only one thinking this?

reply

Nope, I thought that too.

No matter how subtle the wizard,a knife between the shoulder blades will seriously cramp his style.

and some have said its a rip off of the xfiles alien black oil substance. which could be said of phantoms.

of course phantoms was more, it had huge bucks and stars in it. peter otoole. ben affleck. this was made for tv, they dont pay millions of dollars for their stars, they cant, they dont have budgets of billions.

i loved the movie. i loved phantoms, but i dont see any of them as rip offs of the others. if i were to, id say phantoms was ripped from the xfiles

Actually, "Phantoms" is based on the book by Dean Koontz, published in 1983. "X-Files" came along in the 90's. Even then, "The X-Files" black oil was alien in nature, whereas the creature in Phantoms was an earth-based organism that lived deep underground and eventually aqquired intelligence by occassionally feeding on humans over the centuries. "Something Beneath" probably took it's cue from both "Phantoms" and "The X-Files."

1st season of Star Trek TNG had a sentient black oil. I think they called it "the skin."
