liked the movie!

Good sincere story. Bryce's acting is very good, I started to respect her more as an actress after this one. Chris Evans is as sexy as ever, though sometimes he seems confused with his own acting, Well Bryce definetely outshines him. Film might seem a bit too slow at times and seemingly giving too many unnecessary details, but that pace allows Bryce acting to develop and increase the feeling of her character's despair. Southern accents might seem a bit off, but none of the actors is from there, so it's understandable.

I liked this movie also, despite many a sluggish, unnecessary detail, but it was the ending that left me unsatisfied. I would have liked a verbal response from the distant (physically and emotionally) Jimmy, to Fisher's question.

What was Jimmy's aversion to Fisher for the majority of the movie? Did she remind him of his institutionalized mother, as Fisher, was teetering on the edge of despair for most of the movie?

I just saw this actually and I really don't understand why this movie is rated so low. I mean a 5.9!?!? Why and who was doing the rating? I realize the film is not a big movie or anything, but it is far better than what people are rating it. I just really don't get it unless it is just mindless people seeing a low rating and continuing with more bad ratings.

I liked this movie too and am surprised it received such a low rating. I think too many people are used to constant action to appreciate a film based on mostly character development and getting to know the characters. Like one of the other posters, I never did understand why the leading man seemed to have such an aversion to Bryce's character. I suppose reading the short story it was based on might give me an answer. At any rate, I thought Bryce did a wonderful job and she actually made me feel quite sorry for her character. (I am usually quite jaded when it comes to that.)

Just watched it for the second time, and obviously I really enjoyed it. I think all the actors gave excellent perfomances that resonated with the characters Williams had created.

I am at a loss as to why it is rated so poorly, but perhaps the answer is that it is not a flashy "Hollywood" type picture. There are not big explosions, no special effects, and no CGI - just good solid acting, beautiful cinematography, and an interesting plot.

I guess so, that and also she was too much into him too obviously... classics

I think the aversion was due to the fact that he had been bought and he was trying to figure out how he really felt about that and about Fisher. She was so authentic about it, so honest, that I think she eventually won him over. The movie leaves it ambiguous.

Fisher had very concrete reasons for despair--I don't think she was a manic depressive. Living among her small-minded peers was difficult for her, as was living with her father's terrible legacy in the community.
