These comments are amusing to me. This past Sunday and Monday, a Spanish language channel ran parts 1 and 2. I only saw part 1 after an hour had passed, so I must have missed a lot. I have no idea whether they will run the third part or not and since the story doesn't follow the original, I don't know how it will end.
In Spanish, the overacting isn't noticeable really, though there are some odd spots, especially on the ship. I've never met pirates in person so I don't know how they act but I suspect that they weren't like they are in this.
The female character only seems to be there for someone's amusement. I suppose the director thought that the story couldn't stand on its own. Jim Hawkins seems to be interested in her, which must be why he saves her despite her being mean to him.
