Just watch the 1995 film Sense and Sensibility (written and starring Emma Thompson) and you'll get it. this film is meant to be based on Jane Austen's novel, but I get the feeling, watching it, that the screenwriters never read the novel and just watched that version on film.
In the novel, and in the 1995 film, their love didn't develop that quickly. But this film altered the timeline for some reason.
Camilla Belle's character, Nora, is meant to be ELINOR (Emma Thompson's character) in S&S
Edward is Hugh Grant's character, Edward Ferrars, in S&S. But the screenwriters for this film have it as Ferris, which is kind of funny because people who have onnly seen the 1995 film version (and have not read Austen's novel) always THINK Edward's last name is Ferris (rather than Ferrars) because that's how it sounds when pronounced in an English accent. Another reason that makes me think this film's screenwriters never read the novel, but only watched the 1995 film.

Thanks. Just making sure I didn't miss anything. So basically they did that on purpose. I was just so confused as to how he proposed and bought a house for them if they never even went on a date. Seemed ridiculous.
