What was the meaning of the ending

I did not get the ending! Where were they going with the gifts and what was the meaning of "going home for the holiday"? Who were the people leaving the building.

reply

At the very beginning of the film, Julie was the comfortable suburban houswife delivering things to the local shelter/help center. Julie noted an older, shabby woman going into the shelter. The shelter director said this unknown woman wouldn't contact her family about her homeless condition. So, Julie and friends are delivering gifts a year later to the shelter and this unknown woman is now 'going home for the holidays' with her family.

Thank you!

reply

Oh, thanks! I was confused, too, and came to the board to see if anyone knew what that ending meant.

reply

Thank you so much, I watched this movie every year for the past few years around the holidays, but never understood the ending!

reply

Thank you so much! We rewound it about six times trying to figure out that ending! What a mystery!

reply

The ending was especially confusing because Julie's friend said, "Where is SHE going?" like they all knew each other. But the only time the woman appeared in the movie was as a random person Julie saw one time well over a year before.

I am so glad I'm not the only one confused. I watched the ending over and over. Now it makes sense. I just recorded last week. Merry Christmas!

reply

Well I was another one confused, thanks for the exclamation. I missed the beginning of the movie.

reply

I watched this for the first time today and missed the beginning. Thanks so much for clearing up that odd ending. 

"Just look at the flowers, Lizzie."

reply

Terrible ending. Even with the explanation, it was stupid.
