This movie is so unrealistic. Why does her husband get the house and she only $25,000.00 after 20+ years of marriage? Her daughter is a complete spoiled brat!! At the very least Julie could of gotten welfare, foodstamps and a section 8 apartment! Not sleeping in her car and eating free cheese at the mall! Where did she take a shower? Especially, after running up and down 20 flights of stairs twice a day! You also don't get locked out of your apartment for good after being late on the rent for 2 days. It takes many, many months to evict someone for non payment of rent! Also, getting your hair done free at a beauty salon as many times as she did is not realistic either! Once maybe. No way should she be homeles!!! Where are her parents, siblings and the friends she had in the beginning of the movie?? And to wind up with a gorgeous, rich bachelor doctor that is totally facinated with her? This movie is too "fairytale" for me. This would never happen!
And the realtor walking in on the mother and her daughter having dinner in the home and obviously living there --and immediately believing it was just a realtor's gimmick and praising her for it--just ridiculous! and Linda's horrible mugging expressions--argh!

Because she was in denial for her situation and only asked for 25,000 despite her lawyers advice remember? They had a whole scene where she asked 25,000 and for her husband to pay for her daughter education.

She totally was at first, but she apologized and was actually very sweet most of the movie.

Have you been homeless before? Julie was too proud to be on welfare. They had a whole scene explaining why she didn't have that assistance. The lady at the welfare office told her she might qualify for with a few years of tax info. Julie said she didn't have any of that and that her husband couldn't find out she was on welfare. She also didn't have any work history that was required for some of the other stuff.

Her homeless friend told her about a shelter that she goes to from time to time. Maybe she could shower there. Also some people sneak into gyms and/or public bathrooms and wash up in a sink.

YOU GOT ME THERE, I THOUGHT THAT WAS STUPID TOO! ;)

Actually you can at many beauty school salons for free or very cheap (5,10 bucks)...you risk being butchered though, they are students afterall.

Maybe her parents are dead, no siblings, family out of town or she didn't want to admit it to them. One of her friends danced around her question when she asked for a job, so I guess she wasn't a real friend.

Perhaps a little over the top, but so are all LIFETIME movies though to me.I guess most of the stuff you mentioned wasn't so ridiculous to me because when I had a internship at a homeless shelter and workforce center the ways in which people told me they got by not having a home were very similar to this character. The doctor was very "fairytale" but can't a girl dream!? LOL :D
I've been watching this movie every year during the Christmas season for the past few years - i love a holiday come-back film! The story was unbelievable in certain parts (why did she give up her house and not demand more alimony?) I know they touched on the subject, but still not believable. Most people today are out for blood during a divorce, lol! The daughter was a brat, didn't like her. Linda Hamilton looked a bit old in the movie but she was still very charming :-)
Well I don't know about family or siblings .....but i'm sure all of her "friends" would've dropped her real quick after they found out she wasn't part of the world they were part of !!!
I've seen enough horror movies to know any weirdo wearing a mask is never friendly !!!!!
I agree "it's only a movie" and she is portrayed as totally in denial but for some reason I like this movie. I was surprised at how old she looked when I first saw it and the red dress and lipstick in the date scenes accentuated this. About her keeping the house, there'd be no way she could keep up the payments or give the husband half the equity. I was left wondering if the husband really had a lot of money because he talked like his business was struggling. Most Christmas movies are about a widow, widower or someone whose just been dumped finding the perfect new love at Christmas.
I love this movie and it kind of reminded me of Love For Rent in that the male lead is totally fascinated with the lead without really knowing her. I wish we got more scenes of them getting to know each other.
The bottom line is that this is a "Christmas" theme film. Its about having "Faith " in yourself and not giving up. Its about not letting your pride burden but to let your pride help you. The film is not perfect. The Christmas Eve Showing of the home was insane and would never happen.
The film however has more very strong points and is worth watching. Most men and children will hate this.
The film is really best suited for females 15 on up. Its not for the typical "Terminator" fan.
