If there was ever a case that proved the subjectivity of human perception, it is here. Both characters are being played by Eva Green. I haven't seen the film but from the stills I'd say that the only differences are a wig and wardrobe...and the characterization by Eva, of course. I'd say your statement above is a compliment to Eva.

her makeup as Sally was very well done. i didn't realize she was both characters until the very end of the movie.

I think it is subjective.

IMO, Emilia was hotter. She was more interesting to me.

I'd go blond for Kathryn Prescott

Sally is an idealized woman made up by Milo (with her physical appearance inspired by a glimpse of Emilia in a red wig). Emilia is an absolute mess. Therefore, Sally's hair and makeup are perfect, she smiles more (as noted in this thread), and she dresses better. Emilia spends half her time making herself look awful as part of her project.

So yes, it's really all down to perception - much like the relationship with hobo chic David and bitter antihero Preest.

Sally is a fantasy.

Emelia is a tortured soul dealing with childhood sexual abuse.

And you want to know why she "doesn't look hot"???

The words "totally and completely inappropriate" spring to mind.

As you know, Sally and Emilia were different characters portrayed by the same actress.

If Sally is better looking, as you seem to think, it's because she wore more makeup. Sally was painted up like chique (not cheap) whore because she played the seductress. Women need tons of makeup to project the illusion of beauty. Their beauty is mostly made up (hence, the term "makeup") in order to seduce straight men and make other women envious.

Or maybe Sally looked better to you because Emilia was made up to look like a goth girl and you prefer girls in bright colors and red wigs to dreary goth girls.

Whatever.

She isn't. Emilia looked way better than Sally, who had a creepy over-idolized Stepford Wives thing going on. I take a goth Eva Green over that any day, even if I do like redheads.
