Keef's fingers

This particular Stones Rockdoc I liked for of course, Mr. Scorsese, but the closeups, and as an a beginner or intermediate beginner guitarist myself, I really liked seeing the camera focus in on Keith's and Ronnie's fret hands often. I couldn't help but notice, that, Keith has some brutal looking fingers, almost those of a lifelong carpenter or bricklayer. Just an observation.

Yeah, they are gnarly alright. he's got arthritis.

reply

I didn't know that. It's amazing that he can still play.

reply

And quite well, I might add!

I don't know if he has arthritis or not, but he's always had those thick fingers if you go back and look at old photos. Take a look at the back cover of his solo album ' Talk is Cheap'. It's a closeup of his right hand splayed out on the guitar. Those fingers look like anything but a guitarist's fingers, I must agree. Still, it hasn't seemed to have hindered his career much.

If he does have arthritis then it must hurt like hell when he plays, poor baby. :_(

Those are my principals. If you don't like them I have others.~Groucho Marx

And Elton John's hardly got the fingers of a pianist! It's all in what you do with them. Like sex, it's mostly in the brain. Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi is missing fingertips (on his fretting hand) from an industrial accident. It was after that accident when his career took off. Django Reinhardt's third and fourth fingers (on his fretting hand) were disfigured and paralyzed in a fire. After the fire, he became one of the most lauded guitarists of all time. Les Paul kept right on playing even though his fingers would barely move in his later years. Keith's blacksmith hands aren't really much of an impediment by comparison.

reply

Yep. But Iommi and Richards are *beep* guitarists.
