Stones should have split up 25 years ago.

Saved us all watching skeletons prancing around.

Did do some decent songs though, about half a dozen.

Rubbish. Whenever a band has to use schlockmeister teenie queens like Christina Aguilera to bolster their act and give it credibility with younger audiences, then that band has officially descended into Las Vegas sideshow rock n roll irrelevance. It actually IS possible to rock true well into one's 60s and 70s, as Chuck Berry & John Fogerty & Neil Young have proven, but the Stones a long while ago opted for schlockdom. I guess Keith either doesn't care anymore or simply doesn't have the pull he used to.

Bull.
I go to Mick's old secondary school, and went to his primary school. If he'd wanted to get in with the youngers, he would have spent more time here instead of one appearance to open The Mick Jagger Centre all those years ago. I believe that the Stones are far more interested in music than hype and fame.

If that were true they never would've enlisted the services of a shrieking shopping mall muzak queenie like Christina Aguilera, the epitome of soulless corporate music.

I'm not a fan of Christina Aguilera but she is in her mid 20's now and no longer has appeal with the teenie bopper crowd. She is no longer a mega platinum artist either. Unlike her contemparies of the late 90's---she has a hell of voice---not my taste in music--- but I'm open minded. She appears for one song and she holds her own.
The movie is a celebration of a band that really is the "last man standing". There is no band from that era still around that is (mostly) intact. It is amazing to watch these 65 year olds play great rock and roll. To dismiss them for something as shallow as they share the stage with an artist you don't like is pretty closed minded.

Sure as feck beats listening too all those wannabe rockers of today. The world hasn't had a new decent rock band since Nirvana (But maybe The White Stripes is getting there). I've seen the Stones quite a few times and it's better than all that new crap. And I don't think they care if music is coporate either. Who cares if it is anyway? If I go to a Stones concert and see AmeriQuest sponsoring, I couldn't care less. The music is what I go for. It seems to me that the people who complain that music is coporate, are the ones that aren't able to hear the music. If a frickin' sponsor logo brings your attention from the music, you're not as into it as you should be. And then it's your own problem.

Have you seen the movie? Christina Aguilera performs one song with them and she does a good job. Then she's gone. In no way does that suggest that the Stones needed to use her to give their act credibility with younger audiences. The movie was great and the Stones were truly impressive.

reply

"No band rocks as hard"?????? Are you kidding. You need to check out some more bands.
The Stones might rock hard for their age, but they're sloppy as hell and the live versions can't hold a candle to the records. Shattered, for example, sucked hard.

It's so sad that some people are so lonely and their lives so empty that they troll around on websites to complain about music they don't like, or to whine about singers they've never heard, and to congratulate themselves for being stuck in such deep ruts they make george bush look broad-minded.

A couple of these posters have spent far too many years all alone in their basement singing to themselves in a mirror, while this whole world was raging in a cyclone all around them with phenomenal music by men in their 60s and women in their 20s.

But here's the deaf shut-ins saying Aguilera has no soul when the music industry itself selected her out of everyone alive to pay the tribute to The Godfather of SOUL, and how she brought down the house in a way that people are still talking about it more than a year later, and now has been chosen by the greatest rock n roll band of all time to join them on stage. But here come the lonely rut-dwellers to splatter all over their keyboards about worlds they know nothing about in order to feel a little bit better for just a moment about the nothingness of their lives.

Myself and several hundred million people all over the world are sure happy that The Stones have kept getting better and are delivering some of the best performances of their entire career, and that they still have the insight to see and select the very best of the younger generation to join in their ongoing musical celebration and journey.

This is a joy and a blessing for all music lovers of all ages -- except, evidently, the tiny cockroaches in the basement. The rest of us have been given such a gift -- that with all the tremendous groups that are no longer with us, that one of them is still going so strong, and is able to connect itself in a film to both the blues that came before them and the vocalists who will carry the torch forward.

This is a wonderful magical blessing that these shows were captured on film by a cinematic master for the world to see now, and into perpetuity.

Enjoy the majesty, and ignore the satanic rejects. These hot rocks are still glowing and the *beep* tonk women are still wailing!

Well karmacoupe, this proves that you're certifiably insane. The Stones's last excellent album was Tattoo You, and even that is a turd on the run compared to Exile. And you think the Stones have been getting better???? Sure, they still rock, but getting better? You're nuts. I suspected as much given your adoration of Christina Aguilera and her appropriateness for warbling on stage with the Stones, but this comment of yours proves you haven't given much of a listen to their back catalog. Try listening to WHOLE albums sometimes, instead of the greatest hits. Then maybe you'll discover there's more to Exile On Main St than Happy & Tumblin Dice, and more to Sticky Fingers than Brown Sugar. No need to thank me for the helpful tip.

hey pompous cockroach, i don't need tips from a deaf people on how to listen to music.

The Stones last tour had more people pay to see them than any other tour in music history -- that's the hundred million people i'm referring to.

and the musicians are making WAY less mistakes on stage than they ever did in the 60s, 70s or 80s -- that's the better i'm referring to. (and i've seen multiple shows on every tour since '75)

and if every member of the Stones is raving about Aguilera's performance (as well as almost every film review that came out today) i think i'll stick with that majority of refined ears over your small-minded arrogance.

reply

Hey karmacoupe -- maybe if you're REALLY lucky this year Mick will treat you to a duet with the great Gloria Estefan. That'd really make you cream your jeans.

reply

Just for the record, the last great Stones album was Exile.

What a tool. Voodoo Lounge was very good, so was bigger bang. Stripped was awesome. Steel wheels was suberb.

I think that what teh previous poster was refering to was their stage performances anyway, which have gotten better. Tatoo You was a great Album too, bye the way. Ans Exhile is considered one of teh greatest rock albums of all times. do yo ureally expect that every album is going to be as good? thats a bit unfair.

i Agree with almost everything you said. I woudl say tha music is a matter of opinion, and that the roach has a right to dislike or like whomever he wishes. Blasting someoen for liking someone they don't is just stupid. Which brings me to the glaring statemnet I disagree with you about.

The man has an MBA, he was elected Presidient, twice. He has made some mistakes, sure, but what president hasn't? PLease spare me teh hollier then though Bill Clinton speech. But you are intitled to not like Bush, but by saying it as a matter of fact that he is close minded nefates yoru whole poibnt about the Stones, in my opinion.

ok, let the liberal attacks begin!!!!!!!

Then don't watch them. Maybe McCartney should retire.

I went to this movie today and really liked it. I have only seen the Stones in concert 2x. (76 & 88). I have always admired Christina's voice and was very impressed with her duet with Mick. She was fabulous. And I am sure Mick enjoyed dancing with her onstage too. It is not unlike the Stones to have guest artists join them onstage. Tina Turner did, among others I can't list right off the top of my head. I see nothing wrong with them having people like Christina & Jack White perform with them. After all I am sure both of these artists were thrilled to be asked to perform and were most likely influenced in some way by The Stone's music over the years.

Christina can REALLY sing and to criticize her performance/voice or even say she had nothing to do with The Stones is unjustified. Good on you Christina: This was a moment in your career you will never forget!

Wow. I guess that makes you perfect? George W. Bush is not, by any means, a perfect President. But it is moronic to call him stupid. You are entitled to disagree with him. You are entitled to not vote for his party, and thanks to people like him, you can even call him stupid, but it shows your lack of intelligence, not his, when you do so.

I'd like to see you do a better job considering the circumstances. Not forgetting that all the lies of the Michael Moore's film have been debunked. On second thought, I don't think I would like you to try.

Call me a Moron if you want. I made several typing errors. Again, you are entitled ( because of the likes of Bush, Reagan and so on.) But if you knew all the facts, such as I had surgery on my eye the day before I wrote my last post. I was tired and medicated. But I am sure, in your ultra judgmental state of being, things like facts don't matter.

I pray for your sake, you aren't calling me a moron for voting republican.

Now, back to the music.

Oh, come on!
The Rolling Stones have been together this long, it will be sad when they retire from the music business. They might be old, but they still have it. Look at Mick Jagger while he performs. It's like he's 20. Keith may look a bit rough, but he's a great guitarist.
Stones Forever!

Any idea if this tour will be in America? I want to see them so badly!

Anyway, the OP is horribly wrong. The Stones still rock, as this movie showed. Also, I really enjoyed their latest album (A Bigger Bang) and really I love all their albums except possibly Dirty Work. Certainly they aren't as good as they were in the 60s and 70s...but that was the best music of all time, so it's hard to stay at that level.

The Rolling Stones are incredible for their age. Name one band in their 60s who is better than the Stones. There aren't any. They are still better than 99% of today's bands.

reply

I remember back in the '60s, when we'd see these old jazz and blues musicians. We knew they weren't at their prime, buy hey, they're still something special.

Yeah, and they weren't enlisting the singing services of Karen Carpenter to appear relevant either. Christina Aguilera is a soulless joke, which she amply proved at the 2011 Super Bowl.
