Do you have to use the joy stick...

Do you have to use the analog stick to control this on the 360 version or the D pad?
I figure if you have to use the D pad it'd be difficult and likewise if you have to use the joystick.
Can someone please tell me which you use (or whether you choose yourself) and if its difficult to use whichever it is?
