The entire 'Nanking' movie was stolen from another source!

Just stumbling across this tonight and doing minor research, it became obvious that the producer, Ted Leonsis, stole the premise and the entire movie and idea from Dr. R Joseph. All info, and the original video here:

It seems that Leonsis stole the idea in a (successful) attempt to profit from the low budget film on youtube.

Iris Chang (author: The Rape of Nanking) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iris_Chang
is quoted as saying:
"Beware of Ted Leonsis. Leonsis is the enemy of the martyrs of Nanking."

i watched another documentary many years ago renting from a video store in taiwan
it had the many of the same footage used in this movie except the new actors.

and that one actually found many of the survivors to film with, but this one is focused on what the white people did for the victims.

i just felt many scenes are re filmed and then processed in black and white so i can no longer tell what is original anymore.

I think all those videos are public domain, and most were made by the missionaries who were living there at the time or by reporters. Dr. R Joseph didn't create those videos, they aren't his, and certainly can't be called stolen. A war documentary is hardly a new or original idea.

The videos you linked to seemed rather amateurish. At 20:52 in the video on YouTube, the attacking "Japanese" plane is a British Spitfire.

I saw Dr. Rhwan Joseph's film. It is mixed with stock footage and re-shot continuously. with Pictures inserted. It is largely patched together footage.
It is an informative and terrifyingly sober look at Nanjing. A horrible crime from a horrible era in history.
