'My Best Friends Wedding' anyone?

Just reading the synopsis, does this sound Like 'My Best Friends Wedding' to anyone else? Sure, I'll watch it and it sounds like a good kak but not exactly the most original idea to date...

the film actually features unending 'my best friend's wedding' references. so, um, yes. i think this was intentional.

That's too bad. I would respect them more if it were an honest mistake. I'll pass on this.

It's actually a completely different kind of movie from "My Best Friend's Wedding". It's not nearly as good, but that's another thread entirely. A major difference, plot-wise, is that the main character and the groom-to-be have been estranged for 10 years, i.e., it is not necessarily a happy reunion. And it becomes a process of both characters trying to understand what happened to cause the estrangement, and for the audience to be challenged with the notion of what constitutes being gay/straight/in-between. Frankly, the groom's character wasn't developed enough to convince me he had become truly straight in spite of the intense gay relationship he had with the main character 10 years previously - and maybe that was the point, I don't know.

^ Yeah, this review of the DVD says the movie pretty much "owns up" to the comparison, meaning that they talk about it in audio commentary, and even have some of the characters comment on it at times...
