Why does everyone like this movie?

I know i'm not being very positive but this movie was the worst i've seen in years. Why is there no bad comments or reviews for it? On every board on this site there is at least one topic or review of disaproval, so why not for this excuse of a movie?

Please tell me i'm the only person who doesn't like this movie?

still not sure why it's got 2008, when it's a 2007 film.

watched it yesterday (after falling asleep through it the day before) thought it was really bad, some really bad acting, and even some of the accents are terrible (if they are not put on accents then I'm the king of wherever)

the whole film just went nowhere, the light in the forest looked cheap and tacky, the actions scenes (if you can call them that) just looked horrible.

I was looking forward to this film, the whole Nazi-Occult thing was the main draw (I was picturing something along the lines of Wolfenstein (but there is a film in the early stages of production for that, so fingers crossed it's not as crap as this film)

everything was there to make this film good, but in the end, it's just another braindead waste of time.

I can't grasp an understanding of how this got a 6...

Then give it a 1... I PAID to go and see this... and fell asleep during the second half. I paid to take a nap.

how can you rate it a 1, if you have only seen half of it ?

I fell asleep to I am Legend, the second and the third time I saw it, should that affect the score ?

the director of photography did a great job, the position of the general in front of the flag looked fantastic, aswell as the posing dead soldiers up top.

the acting, well, not too much to talk about. Titus Pullo as a merc, hope he does better in The Punisher.

"Tyres" (the radio guy, Irish one...) did a great job.

it was not an oscar presentation, but if you're into zombie-like (I said... like..) films, it's worth a watch.

I saw it tonight - mainly because it was filmed fairly local to my area. I went expecting to hate it and was pleasantly surprised. I actually quite enjoyed it - apart from the really gory bits which I couldn't watch - and I loved the music.

I`m sorry but you obviously don`t know a good horror film when you see one.
Just as a reference what would you say is a good horror film?

Karl S is right, slow and boring.

Because it builds its tension slowly, rather than splashing its expensive special effects all over the screen in the first five minutes. I imagine this is because the makers have a modicum of faith in the viewer and are not terrified that their audience are a bunch of dullards who lose interest in a film when their isnt a cgi explosion/killing every 3 or 4 minutes.
It uses real enviroments instead of hundreds of thousands of pounds of computer generated backdrops, the cast are not solely made up of Americans, just for a change of pace.
It has a nice, creepy little central premise, which to the best of my memory hasn't been used in anything else, the closest being The Keep (great book, terrible movie) but that was Nazi's vs a Demon.
They got authentic looking actors to play professional soldiers, not the clear skinned ladyboys we tend to get for Hollywood these days. Some kid who looks like he's at sixth form college beating up twenty armoured SWAT guys. Whilst his cgi double runs up the wall and does eighteen back flips, before placing a ballet kick on the guys nose.
(SPOILER-ISH) It has a downbeat ending, the ghosts sort of win really, no happy endings to placate you and wipe your a r s e. To sum up the reason i liked it a lot and it appears others did too, is because it was made like a action/horror/suspense/war movie (if there is such a genre) used to be about, ooooh twenty years ago.
This was back before the law of diminishing returns was evoked in these kind of films, that more and more is unquestionably better, faster and faster editing cuts in a cheap attempt to shock, rather than judicious cutting and editing (and scripting) to create atmosphere and tension.
Every now and again a director, writer etc takes a step back to when people new how to do these things right and bloody hell is it a breath of fresh air.

having rented it for only $1.30 i have no complaints with it. sure, i wish it could of ended differently, or possibly went in another direction- but it ended in the most realistic of fashion. does anyone know of any other nazi occult movies similar to this?

reply

Completely agree with you janus-20. c'mon, everyone its not going to win an oscar, but in terms of lower budget "non - Hollywood" I bloody enjoyed it. Good film.

reply

It has Nazi Zombies, instant 10 in my book.

Because only a certain type of personality will go see it in the first place and they're the ones who are more likely to enjoy it. Beside which, considering the plot and it's budget and so on, it's not a bad job. I have my reservations about some of it but I'd definately hire these guys to make a low budget film for me.

it's gritty and stark; plus people are freaking sick of zombie movies filled with hot blondes running all over the place, and slasher horror flicks filled with hot blondes being chased by deformed, deranged, mutants...

did I mention there were no blondes in this film? Me, I like brunettes.

I loved it because so far it's the only war-movie where german soldiers are kicking ass. Well, they're dead, but that don't matter.

They're still portrayed as unstoppable killing machines. Which they were, to some extent.

People like this movie because they anybody over the age of 15 who has watched Grade B horror flicks knows that the vast majority of them are utterly idiotic, and yet this wasn't. It was not great, not a huge thrill ride, but the script writer deserves a big ole kiss folr being the first horror script writer in 10 years to create characters who do not do stupid things and act throughoout in an almost rational matter. And then there is the squad tactics -- that was holy crap good. A Grabe B/Z movei that not only understood how a squad of soldiers moves and reacts, but actually takes pains to emphasize it? So SO much betetr than the nromal tripe in this field.

If you think this was the worst movie you have seen in years, you need to get out more. Go rent something called Skeleton Man and get back to me int he morning about how terrible this one was. Or go watch anything put out by the sci fi channel. There is no comparison -- comparatively this was Casablanca.

I liked the movie because of the atmosphere. The director did an excellent job to make the most out of the limited space - bunker and at the entrance of the bunker. This is what I really enjoyed with the movie and it was not boring for me. Somebody wrote that the acting was not good - I don't think so. This was really good acting - related to the story.
I have watched much worse movies and I appreciate the efforts of the film makers and the actors. Not bad and for somebody who likes Nazi Stories like 'Bullet Proof Monk' and more ghost/horror stuff - give it a try...

Atmosphere: Very good. Story elements: Interesting. Cinematography: Excellent. Story development: Poor, makes little sense. Scares: Practically none. Gore: A few good moments, just to keep the audience awake. Acting: average, ok for the cardboard characters presented. It can't decide whether to be an action or a horror movie. Becomes more tedious as plot progresses. Overall: an unfulfilling horror experience. Please don't compare it to the far, far superior Dog Soldiers or Shock Waves.

reply

Its just a rehash of Event Horizon

reply

Now I'm confused, how does Outpost relate to Event Horizon?

I liked the film, great one to watch late at night.

If this was the WORST you've seen in years, you can't have seen very many films.

It really challenges my understanding when people drop the "Worst-comment" on films when there are pearls like "Manos: The Hands of Fate" and "KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park" out there.

My God, this one was bad! Just when you think they cant make them any dumber and less scary...
