Other Movies Like This?

Just wondering if anyone has some suggestions with other horror movies that are like this. Such as a group of soldiers mixing it up with some supernatural or horrific creatures.

Examples I can think of would be:
Predator
Aliens
Dog Soldiers
Outpost
The Objective

Any suggestions?

Manchurian Candidate (Not alien but human experimentation)
Southern Comfort

I've seen Manchurian Candidate and it was good but not quite what i'm looking for with this post. But Southern Comfort sounds interesting I'll have to check it out.

Btw I recently watched the movie "R-Point" and so far it is the best movie i've seen of this type...except of course classics like aliens.

And Dead Birds, R-Point and Scarecrows too. (Two of these films are about deserters.)

I've seen deathwatch, r-point, and red sands after making my first post and yeah deathwatch was great and exactly what i was after. Red Sands was surprisingly excellent for a independant film with what seemed like a lower budget. R-Point was my favorite of the lot. I'm definitely going to have to check out the other movies mentioned here, overninethousand has quite a few suggestions that I'm going to have to check out. I recently saw another on netflix called afghan knights, it was pretty ok. There's also another movie i'm trying to find by the same writer/director as r-point called GP506 or in english i think it`s called ``the guard post``
These suggestions are completely in-line with what i`m looking for keep them comming please.

Dead Birds is an earlier from the makers of Red Sands, about a group of Confederate deserters trapped in a haunted farm. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUJEwKGJwJ4)

The Bunker - a group of WWII German soldiers in a haunted, well, bunker. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjjIULcCkO8)

Below - WWII US submarine... guess what, haunted. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kk57TzUtP88) This one had a decent budget.

The Keep - WWII evil vs ancient evil. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxCYoLHHWmE) Old film, as you see.

Oh, and also The Killing Box (aka Grey Knight aka Ghost Brigade). (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TU23oLvtozw)

You might want to give Dead Snow a go (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1278340/).
It may be nothing like Outpost in terms of storyline, but it does have nazi zombies:D

If you're also looking for some higher budget more recent movies then Predators(2010) and Doom(2005) fit the bill perfectly. Predators was done really well and Doom is just a fun/funny movie. Resident Evil (2002)also fits the bill but I wouldn't recommend it.

I'm glad I found this post, I gotta check out some of the movies people are mentioning!

reply

Yeah, these have been some great suggestions. I've gotten around to watching just about all the ones that have been suggested so far, I really enjoyed them all and hope they keep comming.

If I come across any more I'll be posting them here.

Mutant Chronicles

"The Devil's Tomb" (2009) and to some extent "Bats: Human Harvest" (2007)... In the latter we have a group of soldiers, who doesn't meet something supernatural, but some genetically altered bats... It was a lousy movie, though, so don't go through too much trouble to find it...

Dead Snow is the best choice

Dead Snow isn't really about soldiers though is it? I'm sure it's good but i don't know if it really fits this very specific genre.

Anyway, I just remembered that Blade 2 (2002) really fits the genre. It's about well trained and super equipped vampires that fight a new breed of super vampires. It has good action scenes. It might be one of the most unique of all the movies listed. It's directed by Academy Award nominated director Guillermo del Toro. You can get it instantly through netflix.

Dead snow is a good movie though. I would say more inline with The Evil Dead series. It is fun to watch.

But yeah I'm looking for movies about like well trained/equipped soldiers or a team, mercenaries maybe, which you think would stand a better chance than the average people but are made to face the unusual/paranormal.

Thanks for this thread. There's some really good movies here I'm gonna check out.

I suppose you could toss Zone of the Dead into the mix, althouogh they're more like FBI rather than standard soldiers.

The Horde is another movie similar to this vein although they're cops/thugs/former soldiers battling it out in an apocalyptic setting against hordes of the undead.

You could always go for the sequel Outpost:Black Sun!

reply

Sequel? Cool. Too bad without awesome Ray Stevenson.

reply

Didn't he die in the first? Btw seems like the second one's a prequel.

War of the Dead

Plot summary:

This is a movie set during WWII and involves Captain Stone and a platoon of American and Finnish soldiers on a mission to find a bunker held by the Germans. On the way there they come under fire and at the same time run in to some German soldiers that seem to be "undead". How is this possible? Their platoon is almost completely killed off apart from a few of them, including Capt. Stone. They move on and run in to another survivor, a Russian soldier. They all try to survive and end up at the bunker they were meant to take out. But once inside they find out just how the German soldiers became the "undead".
