But their accents!

The accents of the kids, or 'irregulars' are TERRIBLE! Pryce is a fantastic Holmes and deserves a shot of the title by himself.

I can just see the Suzanne Smith, going from stage school to stage school, employing plum mouthed precocious teenagers. How hard can it be to find a child of chinese descent who sounds chinese? Tealeaf! Dire dire dire. Or for that matter children from the eastend?

'Awesome'? Did children in the victorian era use that expression?

SO much potential. Such rubbish!

It took me all my time to understand them, what chance do the Americans stand.
And their costumes were so Oliver Twist it was pathetic. And the girl, Sadie who was kidnapped was wearing leggings. For heaven sake, they may be scruff-bags but they were Victorian!
This series looked promising, but they had better up the standard. It was pathetic.

I could have sworn I'd seen the entire outfit she was wearing in New Look last week, just cleaner.

I pull the trigger till it goes click.

Would children in Victorian times have used the expression "Game Over"?

reply

I agree. Their scripts were littered with were also given so many modern figures of speech - e.g. the soap opera staple:'Wots that supposed ter mean? and 'awesome!' Of course 'awesome' was used then - but in a totally different context!
It really ruined the credibility of the whole piece. Frankly none of the kids could not act their way out of a paper bag.
I felt sorry for the excellent adult cast and feel (given the wonderful location) that it deserved a better script.
Andrew Davies would have lifted this dumbed-down dross out of the horse-manure (the only authentic aspect of this show) that has become the latest triumph of the BBC's dumbing down policy.

reply

I haven't seen the show but are you saying they've changed the Victorian era into some sort of multi-cult alternate history? This production sounds laughably PC. Will Socialists ever stop boring us with their sneaky little revisions?

reply

Why cant BBC at least Close caption some of these films?

reply

I think 'The Tudors' answeres that question for you :s
