I thought this was great!

A witty, fast paced take on the great Sherlock Holmes, aimed not at grumpy old men who worship crusty old Sherlocks, but a new generation of bright young kids. We should thank the BBC for offering younger people a role model that celebrates intelligence.

The new dumbed-down BBC clearly it hit its target audience; but it left those with memories of high quality family drama on a Sunday out in the cold.
This programme cynically pandered to the terminally lazy - presenting no stimulation or challenge to young minds.
Although I got my magnifying glass out - I could not many detect signs of intelligence.
No-one expects adaptation (or use of a specific literary figure created by another) to be a perfect replica - but this was crass and laughable in its pretensions.
Furthermore, as a 'youngish' woman - I see no validity in your references to the 'old' and 'crusty' in fact - it comes across as a load of old S***locks!

I did not understand a word of what u just sed but i'll disagree anyway. I think it was good, putting into mind that it was a short budget programme.

You know, I have no idea what you are talking about when you say "old men who worship crusty old Sherlocks". The old Sherlock Holmes stories are great, and always have been. Some of the older productions, like the Granada version with Jeremy Brett, are superb. There's no need to knock other people's interpretations of Holmes just because you happen to like this one.

It was just okay. It ignored the canonical history of Sherlock Holmes in "A Scandal In Bohemia" wherein Holmes almost worshipped "The Woman". The only woman to beat Holmes at his own game. Pryce was good, the rest of the cast, but the story is simply wrong, makes a good character an unbalanced, murderous villain and that's where it falls down. I got my copy out of our local library, so I would recommend that or a rental 'cause I would not purchase it for my Holmes collection...

This was a semi-decent addition to the wonderful world of Holmesian pastiche, but it definitely wasn't one of the better ones. It would probably have been better for a younger person who hadn't read the Canon multiple times, plus seen most of the other screen adaptations of Holmes. This would be a good introduction to pique interest, something to motivate kids to go read the stories. Jonathan Pryce seemed too old to play Holmes; by the time Holmes was that age, he was a beekeeper in Sussex! Still, this miniseries was better than that James D'Arcy story a few years ago.

I am a Sherlock Holmes fan . . . .more like a fanatic! I've seen just about every SH film ever made, except the Russian productions which I understand are excellent! It was fun to see the Baker St. Irregulars. I loved the plot, the acting, and Pryce was "pryce-less" as Holmes!!!
