Is this a religious show?

Not a big fan of shows that get all God and "Bibley" on you. No offense to any religion, just wanted to know, thanks alot

Don´t think so - they´re suing the church in 0103...:-) It´s just his acupuncturist friend who´s comparing him to Moses (joke!). Granted, one of the minor flaws...(as is Natasha Henstridge´s role...or herself, who can say...). Try it, it´s quite funny and has some good acting!

Natasha is awesome...you should be ashamed for suggesting otherwise!

I think it's more about personal spirituality than religion. People tend to get the two mixed up. The idea of god is that of a universal deity and not necessarily tied into any specific religion or any set guidelines other than that of right and wrong. I think the show goes with the god angle simply to capture the majority of the audience because a lot of people automatically assume that spirituality coincides with the existence of a higher being rather than a simple idea. One could say the producers worked in the god angle as a way of dumbing things down for the masses so they could better relate to the spiritual aspect of the show.

Well since many things about the show point to a God of a non-specific denomination I would disagree with your assessment. And the fact that the main characters immediately associate the religious aspects with Christianity is pretty much necessary considering it takes place in the states and that is the religion they would obviously associate God with...freaking duh...

If this were a show taking place in ancient Greece maybe it would be natural for the character to see the messages as coming from Apollo...but that wouldn't be very believeable in modern day New York...

Some examples of them specifically sticking it to christianity (my only real problem with the show which is otherwise phenomenal)

George Michael as a sent vision...really the guy is gay...say what you like, the bible is pretty specific about this.

The gay chimpanzees...as above

The "I want Your Sex" episode...pretty sure the church would have been behind expelling this girl...

Right to death case...the church has made its stance pretty well known on this too...

His spiritual advisor is an asian acupuncturist...I think if they wanted to dumb it down for the masses they could have done the obvious and had his brother be a priest...although instead of dumbing it down for the masses you should consider the obvious...that by distancing itself from Christianity they were instead dumbing it down for the church hating atheist minority by specifically refusing to tackle what would have been an obvious question for the main characters...

No it's not. People just like to think it is. The bits people cite in regards to homosexuality being a sin comes from the same book of the bible that states that it's a sin against God to cut our hair, touch/eat pork or shellfish, wear polyester, and more. (Leviticus, look it up).

The show is about faith. The brilliance of it is that in modern North American society faith is associated with Christianity. But in 26 episodes they make numerous allusions to things Christianity deems wrong in biblical law and the main characters fight against these intolerances (transgender priest comes to mind too).

The show was brilliant because it tried to show people that you could have faith or be spiritual without being religious or without believing any religion.

Also, all this comes from a straight male. I'm just all about equal rights.

Exactly right... like "you can just fine without knowing or caring about Jesus Christ." Which should make people comfortable with it as it is not exactly the message most churches want to send. And it was still cancelled.

And yet: Leviticus is where pork is prohibited, and shellfish too, for that matter...

The show mentions God and some Biblical characters but really no mention of Christ or his disciples. More of the Hebrew/Jewish God sprinkled with bits of new age.

It's a show about one's belief and faith in people. For many, that is religion.

Eli Stone: But I don't believe in God.
Dr. Frank Chen: Sure you do. You believe in right and wrong! You believe in justice and fairness! You believe in love! All those things are God!

And that is the religion of the show.

No, no, it's not Apollo 11. That would be silly. It's Neil Armstrong's foot.

Nice Who siggie!

Rose: I'm not going to invite you in. Not because I'm married, but because I know who I am.
