Questions - Possible Spoilers

Finally got to rent this movie, and my wife and I both enjoyed it. Besides the movie itself, since we live in Highland Park it was cool trying to ID the various local sites used for filming locations.

I do have a couple of questions - if Kyle or someone involved is still reading the board, maybe I'll get answers!

1) The house used for Laurie's (Ally Sheedy's) looked like a Highland Park style house. Was it? If so, what street?

2) Same question for the football practice scenes - which school's field was used?

3) Elsewhere on this board, (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0892100/board/nest/60155367) it was mentioned that one Rafi Weinstein - who is the son of close friends of ours - was used as an extra, playing Laurie's brother. Since that scene wasn't in the movie (darn!), was it actually filmed and then cut, or was this just a rumor?

4) Finally, a small plot question: When Roy went to beat up Tom, he was arrested and then shown being bailed out by Laurie from the Highland Park police station. But it stated earlier that Tom was now living in Watchung, so wouldn't it have been the Watchung police who picked him up?

Again, an enjoyable movie! Thanks!

To answer your questions:

1) Laurie's house was indeed shot in Highland Park. The house is on Graham St. a few blocks from So. 2nd.

2) The practice field as well as the playing field for the football scenes were shot in the back of Highland Park High School (on the baseball field for the practice, the football field for the game) a place where the director, HP native Kyle Schickner spent quite a lot of time (both playing ball and perhaps doing things he should not have been doing...).

3) We are not sure where that came from but no, there were no scenes in which Ally's Sheedy's character has a brother. Kyle really wanted to convey a sense of isolation for Laurie, and giving her family close by would have lessened the impact of both the character being alone as well as illustrating her ultimate strength. So, although Rafi Weinstein did not play Ally Sheedy's brother, it is quite possible that Mr. Weinstein can be seen in the movie, as Kyle tried to use as many HP residents as possible as extras in the film.

4) That one you got us on! It is stated that Laurie's ex husband has moved to Wachung and then we see Ally bailing him out of what is clearly the Highland Park police station ("clearly" because in the background proudly displayed behind Ally Sheedy and Alan Ritchson, it says "Highland Park Police Station"). The reason for the continuity problem is that Kyle really wanted to shoot this film in the town he grew up in. That meant 90% of the film would be shot in Highland Park. Because that location was important to the director we simply did not have the time nor the money to actually pull up stakes and move the production to Watchung for that one scene so instead the stand in house for Tom's Watchung home can be found at then end of So. Adalaide Ave. Could Kyle have shot the scene in front of the HP police station without showing the huge sign? Without a doubt, but he really wanted to give not only the town he grew up in it's proper due, but he also felt so appreciative of how helpful the HP Police Department was to the production (without their help the film would never have been made) he wanted to highlight them, which includes using their police cars and having the police in the film actually HP officers.

Hopefully the confusion did not take you out of the movie too much. We have always thought about holding a competition to see who can spot the most locations. We are pretty sure a few would never be figured out.

Thanks for the support.

6 years later but here you go....

1) Ally Sheedy's house was on Graham St just off South 2nd

2) HPHS football field and gym. Sadly HP no longer had a pop warner football team so we used two teams from Edison.

3) Not sure where that came from Laurie never had a bother in the script

4) Yes you caught the mistake. Very impressive how you paid attention. It is stated that Tom now lives in Watchung and we did film in the HP police station. I'm hoping only folks knowing HP would pick that up and it did not sully your viewing experience.
