Oprah?

I remember about a year or two ago Oprah had a guest on her show whose wife and adopted Asian daughter were killed in a car accident by a teen participating in a drag race. He later fought for the boy to not be put away in prison because he felt nothing positive would come out of it. It was a heartbreaking story and I had so much respect for this man who lost his family and was still willing to forgive. Is this the same guy that they based the movie on?
