Why the bad reviews?

Let me tell you, I have seen some pretty crappy direct-to-DVD horror. I was expecting this to be another one of those, but it's actually a really good movie. Not only is it entertaining and original throughout, but the director doesn't try to insult the viewer's intelligence by stretching out the time of the movie like most others. It's quick, to the point, and just an overall good watch that will probably be skipped over and forgotten about.

Looking at the DVD's "special features," I saw trailers from the same production company for a few other films that look pretty cool too, Warriors of Terra, UKM: Ultimate Killing Machine, and Dead Mary. I just hope that these are as good as Living Death and that the company keeps bringing out movies like this.

I've seen WORSE....but I've also seen BETTER!

I gave it a 4/10. And maybe I was generous with that rating.

I woke up early in the morning for school to find this movie on my tv when it came on. I thought it was really entertaining. I wanted to watch the rest of the movie, but I had to get ready for class. It was kinda strange seeing Kristy Swanson in a movie again, the last move I saw her in was "Buffy the vampire slayer". Can't believe that movie is so old now.

I thought this movie was kinda funny on that part when the husband finally woke back up and those med students accidently cut his fingers off. I was in shock yes, but I know that pushed him over the edge...well I guess when they took his inner organs out is what pushed him over. The last part of the movie I saw was when Kristy's character pulled out a gun to see why Roman wasn't responding to her when she was calling him.

This movie was nowhere close to being like 'Buried Alive' (1990). The cast of that made-for-tv movie (Tim Matheson,Jennifer Jason Leigh& William Atherton was excellent! Even the sequel with Matheson playing a supporting role was great and very sad. This movie has to improve to reach the level of being craptastic!!! OMG this was awful! Nothing happened most of the movie! NOTHING! There was some blood & gore but my gawd it took forevah for SOMETHING to happen! Some of the worst acting I've seen in decades! Swanson was especially bad and fat. She was probably the only face that was known!! I guess the rest of the cast was made up of Canadian actors??? Dreadful.

While I'm fully aware of much worse movies out there, this movie was a formulaic, uninventive sack of crap. I'm usually very capable of suspending my disbelief, but by no means would any of this been possible. Sure tetrodotoxin is very potent neurotoxin and the writer had a lot of the science right, but took far too many liberties with the ability of the human body. A body without a pulse or respiratory function will die within hours without aid; TTX poisoning prevents the action potentials to keep the diaphragm going, causing suffocation. And after having his intestines pulled out of his body, he would've developed an insanely massive infection and died within a couple hours without extreme antibiotic intervention.

Beyond that, the entire plot was unforgiving slop. The writers chose to kill the only innocent bystander in the movie, the girl from the beginning Victor so kindly tortures, removing any sort of justice in the movie. This is no movie to remove the smallest moral compass, because whoever wrote this clearly lacked the ability to write a morally-entrenching situation where even the good guy sometimes dies; the writer just wanted to add another tally to the small body count. And Swanson lives?!?! She's one of the people who should've died, yet she goes on to live happily ever after with all of Victor's money. This movie should've ended with Victor dying from respiratory failure and that would've saved me the next 45 minutes of my night.

1/10.

i thought it was a very interesting movie - i enjoyed it! i read a very short description of the movie and going in thought it was going to be a cheesy ghost flick. it turned out not like that at all, so i was pleasantly surprised by that. parts could've been better, sure, but overall still very cool and had me kinda freaked out by the end. maybe not two, but at least one thumb up :o)

I know it's no classic, but I have to admit I laughed like hell through most of it. That guy that played Victor was SUCH a degenerate I just had to crack up. If a movie makes me laugh so much it must be entertaining, right?. They do call movie making the 'entertainment' business, after all.
