Are there any other Asian films on the subject of female homosexuality (beside Hu Die) that are a. not as timid and b. just as beautifully shot? Is there anything that could be considered a 'classic'? I'm new to the whole foreign film circuit...
is one of the best lesbian films i've seen... it's not really an asian film, because its shot and made in the US, but almost all the cast are chinese..
The chinese botanist's daughters (beautifully shot but totally depressing), Love my life, Memento Mori (amazing korean film but again a little bit depressing), Red doors (asian-american), Rome and Juliet...
Memento Mori was horrible~.. because it made me cry T-T I hate sad lesbian movies.. So instead, go for Whispering Corridors or The Wishing Stairs (the latter is my favorite)
the wishing stairs? i saw that movie, but i don't remember it having any lesbian-related stuff... maybe my memory's failing... refresh my mind, if u would. why's that your favourite? =)
Well, most of other already have told you i guest, i try to find the dvd of THE CHINESE BOTANIST'S DAUGHTER, but unluck couldn't find anywhere that sold in america. SAVING FACE is happy ending though, most of asian homosexuality movies end up sad ending because of all traditions and taboo. Oh before i forget there are two...LADY IN HEAT(chinese, lady cop fall for the suspect) and THE SCARLET LETTER(korean) which i haven't see this one yet!. I have watched SPIDER LILIES and i lost count of it...lol. This movie so well done and i love the storyline and the acting of two leading was speechless, good luck and enjoy!
Your classic would be Blue Gate Crossing, which is definitely better and more beautifully shot but possibly more timid. Also, So Close, if you like Hong Kong action films.
Beautiful lesbian about two lovers waiting to meet each other after they got separated from war. It sounds boring, but it's told through their younger selves about how they slowly fell in love with each other. All the momentum of the movie weight on the moment they finally reunite.
