I love and hate Asian movies.

I've seen dozens of them from every genre. I love how different the stories are and how differently they are made, the direction, cinematography, action sequences, etc. The thing I dislike, is that I can never follow them. I don't care if I'm watching something funny like "My Sassy Girl" or something dark like "The Suicide Club". I never fully understand what is going on. I get characters confused, etc.

Are the movies deliberately a little vague to allow the viewer to interpret them the way they want? or is something being lost in the translation?

In this one, Takeko was calling the dude with the tatoos bro. He was referring to her as his sister but they weren't brother and sister were they?

No they weren't related and it wasn't being vague you must have missed a bit in the tatoo parlour were he sort of asks Takeko out and she basically shrugs him off so he says something like 'we'll just be like brother and sister then'.He just liked her and they had a cute friendship similar to a big sister and little brother relationship.

The full of words say,how I want you...How I love you.

It honestly just sounds like you can't tell Asians apart, and I'm not saying this to be insulting. If you haven't grown up around a lot of Asians, it may be difficult to dive right into a movie where the entire cast is Asian. It gets easier with time and more exposure.

It is the same way with the names. If all of the names are in a foreign language that you're unfamiliar with, it will be difficult to keep them straight.

This is not just true of Asian media, but of just about any media from cultures and ethnicities other than what you're used to. Many Americans and Europeans grow up telling people apart by hair colour, eye colour, and distinct features that are only true to Caucasians, whereas someone from South Korea or someone from Lebanon may grow up using other facial features and distinctions.

Like I said, the more you expose yourself to other cultures, the easier it will become for you to follow along. It isn't anything to be ashamed of, it just sounds like you're a little sheltered.
