George thought he was better than everyone else. He said he was out of Aly's league no matter what size she was. I think George just rejected the popular kids in a way, and they didn't care because there is nothing that special about him anyway.
shareNo, I think you got that backwards - he meant that she was too far above him. George suffered from a lack of self-esteem. That's why he was un-popular. Sometime all it takes to be considered to be unpopular is being different and not fitting in with a popular group.
