Quick Question about the movie

After they found Nathan, one of the guys asked "Do you think it happened like Burke said?" What did Berke say happened? How did he explain what he did?

reply

I've always wondered the same thing, but even in the title novel it isn't expanded on. I mean, Burke viciously sodomized and killed Roy's lover... what could Burke have said to explain Nathan's murder.

reply

Honestly, it was probably left out because his excuse wasn't important to the story- the story is about Roy & Nathan.

reply

I think the story is about more than just Roy and Nathan, i.e. sexuality in the South v. Christianity and faith, incest v. questionable morality, social and gender roles in the family/society in the rural 60s etc... there seems to be a lot more going on than just the boy's "love" story. I think Burke and his conflict, er whatever, is another important narrative to consider no matter how slight. And I wanna know how Burke could've possibly explained away Nathan's injury and death. However, I feel that the last chapters of the novel feel rather rushed, but they're all I've got.
