Wait, did I miss somethign, I thought it was a happy ending?

I must have just missed it.

I thought the final scenes were abstrac, but a clear ending..I thought all the peopel seeing his body was just abstract impressionism, not actual.

I figured
*For starters, the church roy was in was different (his mum said they attend a different church) why would his funeral be in a different church..

*Roy was just upset that they had pretty much left him in the house thinking he was missing/dead.

*Nathans mum had left thinking Nathan juts isnt returning

*Nathan found his way home, and lived happily ever after with Roy

Although it was 2am in the morning when I watched it so my focus may have been scewed, but reading these forums, i dont think I want to re watch it, im happy with my ending!

Why did they change the ending in the movie? Sure,Roy was my
favorite one,but that didn't stop my heart from breaking at what
happened to Nathan!

I'm also confused by the ending. I'm gonna go with what the OP said because that makes me feel a whole lot better. :)

Sorry to say this, even though Roy was my favorite, I'm sure
poor Nathan dies. And that is a very heartbreaking fact to say.

I found this on youtube. I believe it.

Nathan was dead the whole time. That's why he could hear his father say Nathan are you still awake all the time because his father was checking if he was still alive as you saw at the end. When you die your brain is still active and your life flashes before your eyes and that's what was happening. The movie is called dream boy because it was that final dream where your life flashes before your eyes

Are you saying he was dead from the very start of this whole movie, and that Roy fell in love with a ghost? Did I miss something here?

reply

All of the events in the movie happened before the movie and Nathan was dreaming them before he died.

Just one man's opinion, and certainly with spoilers - After the last scene in the mansion, we are at Nathan's funeral. All the scenes with Nathan after that are of Roy's fond recollections of Nathan, and his process of saying a final goodbye to dead Nathan. One could say it is Nathan in the form of a ghost, though I think the ghost was just Roy's thoughts and memories, and not Nathan's real ghost.

However, I wonder what happened to the boy in the final scene in the Mansion; upstairs with Nathan. No indication that the police were involved after the fact. At least not relative to that boy's fate.
