Inn of the Sixth Happiness
Isn't this the same story as the Ingrid Bergman film from the late 50s?

Sounds very similar
I am very surprised at the lack of mention of Inn of the Sixth Happiness.
It seems hard to hear the story of Children of Huang Shi and not think of the earlier movie.
Can anyone provide any compare and contrast notes on the two films ?
It's not the same story, but there are obvious parallels. And Ingrid Bergman was a lot better looking than that Welsh sheep-shagger.
IotSH was too saccharine, even when it was released. It was a good story, but it was made into a tear-jerker. Whereas this film doesn't dwell overmuch on the actual journey, and spends no time at all trying to show us the workings of Hogg's brain.
