Inn of the Sixth Happiness?

I remember as a child, having seen a film with Ingrid Bergman about the Japanese entering China and a voyage, to save lots of Chinese children, through the woods and over the mountains to safety.

Does anyone know if 'Children of Huang Shi' and 'Inn of the Sixth Happiness' are based on the same true events?

Basically, the historical background is the same: the sino-japanese war in the thirties. Both stories however revolve around different persons, who have actually existed. Gladys Aylward was a British missionary (1902-1970), George Aylwin Hogg was an adventurer (1915-1945). Both undertook a similar journey, hwever from different Chinese provinces.

Thank you for your reply, doofie!

I googled Gladys Aylward and found her background very different from that of George Aylwin Hogg. Both did a remarkable job, though. Hogg died at the end of it and was praised by the Chinese government as a hero, Aylward wanted to return to China but was blocked by the communists (she then went to Taiwan). Luckily some Chinese got to know her as Ai-wei-de (Virtuous One).
