Autobiographical?

How much of this movie is autobiographical? I watched the directors cut and Peter Tolin said it was made about a family friend, but in the movie he goes to save his neice. On the DVD it says ITS HIS NEICE, REALLY. Did all this really happen to Peter Tolin with the exception of a little Hollywooding up? TP PT Taylor Peters Peter Tolin. It seems a lot like Peter in every way. Who is the Amanda character based on? Can anyone help here?

I read a story in a magazine once about a guy recognizing his relative in a porno and later found her by accident but that seems completely different from the movie.

I watched the whole thing and didn't see one fish. But then, I thought it was about Nemo's sister.

It's very autobiographical with some changes. Tolan really did volunteer to go try to help a family friend who was hooking in Las Vegas because he wanted to go to Las Vegas himself, really did habitually lie to his wife on the phone about where he was when he was at the track, really did take checks out of the middle of her checkbook, really did agree to go to therapy for gambling but not make the most of it, etc. Whereas Tolan didn't get thrown off a TV show for needing substance rehab like Broderick's character had been thrown off one in the past, e.g.
