of denis leary had the main role in this movie instead...

Dennis Leary is hardly an actor. He's not even a good comedian.

Matthew Broderick is a better actor than Denis Leary and funnier (in his subtle way) than Denis Leary. I did think Leary did a good job in The Ref though.
