I guess I can somewhat agree that the trailer was a bit deceiving. Though I would have to say Dennis Hopper in that trailer and some other parts kind of hinted that it was an R movie, despite the rating in the beginning of the trailer. But this is NOTHING compared to what Disney did to promote Bridge to Terabithia.
Based on the trailer if you ignore the R rating at the beginning, you'd expect all that'd happen is Dennis Hopper would end up having a tense argument with his son that would end with them reconciling rather than what actually happens.
Well I guess you're right. I mean from what I've heard it's because of the heavy profanity and one brutal scene of violence that gives it's R rating. But the trailer does give a fair warning of the contents and I kinda expected it. IDK there is no real argument to this, many/most trailers don't give up what the movie really has to offer. And I can't really imagine them adding any more parts to the trailer that showcases the rating other than profanity and the sheer gloominess of it. Sleepwalking is a 'family' drama, just not targeted towards the family because of its heavy subject matter. Sleepwalking can get away with such a trailer.
Bridge to Terabithia, as great as the film was, had a marketing campaign that trully messed with the audience it was targetting. The PG rating and the trailer's fantasy-loaded sequences did not do anything to prepare the audience (particularly the ones who never read the novel) for the plot-heavy and tragic turn that the film makes.
Yeah disney does terrible trailers bridge to terabithia was a fantastic movie one of my favs but disney almost made me not watch it. i saw it because i liked the name.
