The ending (spoilers, obviously)

For some reason, I thought the VERY end where it fades out to James driving down an empty road left the movie kind of incomplete. I thought it would have been sort of cool if they showed him crossing over into Mexico like Tara suggested to him before. Minus border patrol most likely busting him, it would have worked out nice.

Anyway, loved this movie. AnnaSophia's best movie yet.

Did you notice that the road is the same as seen in the opening fade into at the beginning of the film?

It appears as if James was heading south. So I guess he chose to go to Mexico. You can see the truck's shadow off the driver's side rear and with the sun being in the southwest at that hour of the day (at least after 3 p.m.) and month of the year (December) that's the most likely direction. But I would have have chosen Canada being already used to the cold weather.

You're kidding, right?

The father was dishonest with them from the start.
He knew they were in trouble, but he did not offer help.
He berated and abused them, and he was going to keep
them there forever. He worked the girl until her hands
were raw.

This kind of thing would be extenuating circumstances
in a murder trial.

Then there's the closed-fist beating he was giving Tara at the time, and the face punch he'd just given James. James was justified.

the son was dishonest with his dad about the girl. the father knew who the girl was and let them dig their own holes. we know that the dad was told from the very start about Tara. Tara had never been to a farm so when she was told to clean the stalls her hands got raw fast. she had not worked like that in her life. i don't think the dad liked being lied too.
you will note that the cops put out an APB on the car not on the pickup that James was driving so he was gone.

The dad’s attitude was less about being lied to and more about the fact that he is a controlling, abusive man. I never got the impression his attitude came from him being angry that he was lied to. Based off of the way James responds to him, the dad probably has been like that to Joleen and James when they were growing up, which is why Joleen high tailed it out of there.

Even if it were, when you’re lied to like that, the appropriate thing to do is confront them right off the bat. Or tell them they can’t stay with you because of their dishonesty. Above all, why not hold the ADULT accountable for the lie? He was basically mentally torturing the 11 years old and as others have mentioned, he started beating her with his fist.

The dad was a D-Bag and was going to be one no matter what. They never should have went there... James knew what was in store for them. I know he felt it was the only thing he could do, but it really wasn't. Being homeless is a lot better than that and he could have found a job and before they knew it they could have living in a house again. Well live and learn... then get Luvs.

James would have been in jail so fast if he would have turn himself in and the girl would have been back in f care. What do the cops know about what was going on? James was (on the ran) with a 12 year old. Danni told him to be careful because of the girl. The dad would have know about the two shorly after they went missing as the cops called him right a way to see what he knew.
yes i know the dad was a jerk.
