Saskatchewan....

I have lived in Saskatchewan my whole life...and throughout the movie my sister and I kept saying that this movie could have been filmed here. I come on here to look for info about the movie, and sure enough it was.

As a matter of fact, in the extras of the DVD I just watched, featurette section, someone from the crew mentions "packing up our things and let's go to Canada", so I guess it IS Saskatchewan. Except it is not SUPPOSED to be Sask. When was the last time a film was actually happening in Saskatchewan ? Let's hope I don't have to go back as far as "Why Shoot the Teacher" !

There's a surprising number of films made in Saskatchewan actually. At least one a year with a big-name actor.

Wow. No offense, but I don't think I've ever seen a more bleak, colorless and depressing place in my life. I really don't mean to sound like an a$$hole, because I'm sure there are many nice things about Saskatchewan, but I honestly don't know how I would keep my sanity if I lived there. I have seasonal depression, and just thinking about spending a winter, let alone growing old, in the midst of such a faded gray wasteland makes me want to curl up and die. And you've lived there your whole life? How do you do it? Jeez, the more I think about it, the more I feel like it's really not that different from my concept of hell on earth.

LIFE: It's just a movie.

There are many nice things about Saskatchewan, but they are overshadowed by common misconceptions, like the entire province is a flat, boring wasteland. Contrary to popular belief, most of Saskatchewan isn't even flat prairie, it's forested Canadian Shield, valleys and lakes. The #1 highway is built across probably the flattest part of Saskatchewan so that is all most people see as they drive through.
Saskatchewan is also Canada's sunniest province, and I know a lot of people who have lived in BC and Sask who say a Regina/Saskatoon winter (cold as it is) isn't nearly as depressing or dreary as a Vancouver winter.

I live in SK, too. And I could really feel the vibe.
