best and worst character reviews
If you haven't already been able to tell, I absolutely love BT2. Anyway, I though it would be a good idea to discuss the best and worst characters from the game, and this way swap strategies and such. Decide who to be, and who not to be.
GOOD CHARACTERS:
-Goku (standard/SS/SS2/SS3 version): As the main man, they had to make this guy good. And sure enough, they did just that. In every form he has a melee and projectile attack alike, meaning he can take care of anyone regardless of size. His version of the Spirit Bomb is the most damaging Ultimate Blast in the game. In every form he's a solid fighter.
-All Great Ape characters: These guys don't flinch from melee attacks, making them absolute powerhouses. When it comes to brute strength these guys are amongst the finest choosable characters. If you're up against someone who has no projectile-oriented Blast 2 or Ultimate Blast moves, they're screwed. Period. And they can reach max power mode with only 2 blast stocks, thanks to the Howl technique.
-Hildegarn: Strength. Awesome energy attacks. all the size advantages of a Great Ape. This guy is tricky to play at first, but get the hang of him and he can quickly become your new favorite.
-Baby Vegeta: In every form this guy either has Finger Blitz Barrage or a stronger variant - one of the best and most damaging projectile attacks in the game. Not to mention every time he transforms his Ki gauge fills up to 5 units. If you want to cheese your enemy to death with FBB, THIS is the man to play as. Oh, and let's not forget that Golden Great Ape transformation!
-Frieza (Form 4 100%): Best Frieza in the game. The Destructo Discs are great because they are both powerful and seek out the target, making it easy to deal with a foe of any size. If you're fighting a standard-size foe, the Nova Strike is a great melee Blast 2. Of course, if you want to use the Giant Death Ball ultimate blast, he also has the Long-Awaited For 100% Blast 1 to reach Max Power mode faster, provided you have the blast stocks. TIP: Start as Form 4 1% and transform into this form. After the transformation you'll have five full Ki gauges - great for striking with those destructo discs.
-Burter: This guy isn't terribly powerful, but he can reach Max Power mode VERY quickly, thanks to a Blast 1 that lets him charge up to Max mode with only a single blast stock. This makes it easy to cheese the enemy to death with a mixture of high speed rush's and the space mach attack. Plus the guy has speed on his side and hits faster than anyone else. Even if you're stuck fighting a big guy, you've still got the Energy Ball attack. By far the best Ginyu Force character in the game.
-Vegeta (Saiyan Saga): A Great Ape transformation is certainly an attraction here, but even in his humanoid state he kicks butt. Final Galic Cannon is an absolutely excellent Blast 2 that does over 10000 damage. And of course, how can you not love Dirty Fireworks?
-All Super Saiyan 4 characters: These guys are insanely strong and can even hurt big guys with physical strikes. There's no greater joy than doing a Tag Battle and fusing SS4 Goku and SS4 Vegeta into SS4 Gogeta. As an added incentive, if you successfully perform this fusion, SS4 GOGETA STARTS IN MAX POWER MODE! Right after the fusion, get in your foe's face and let them have it with the 100X Big Bang Kamehameha.
-Raditz: The Volley Blast is tough to dodge, the high speed attack is an excellent melee blast 2, and he's got a Great Ape transformation beyond all that. A surprisingly good character.
-Android 13: If launched at close range, all forms of the SS Deadly Bomber are virtually impossible to dodge. Not to mention he has some pretty damaging other attacks.
-Android 18: The best android. Destructo Discs are great, period. Not to mention her other attacks aren't half bad, and if you can save up three blast stocks you can go straight to max power mode with a blast 1.
-Turles: This guy's Blast 2's are EXTREMELY tough to dodge - one is a big blast, and one seeks. If fired in fairly close range he can be virtually unstoppable. And of course, the Great Ape transformation.
-Kid Buu: Speed and powerful attacks, this guy gives you the best of both worlds.
-Fat Buu: Chocolate Beam is a great melee attack, and his other blast 2 and ultimate blast can easily catch a foe off guard who is planning a close-range assault.
-Broly (Legendary form): An absolute powerhouse whose strength is tough to match. Enough said.
BAD CHARACTERS:
-Yajirobe: Low life bar, pathetic attacks that can't exceed 10000 damage, can't fly to save his life. Enough said.
-Janemba (fat): This guy's immune to melee blast 2s and ultimates due to his size, but that's about the only good thing about him. His attacks are inaccurate and he's VERY difficult to control. Skip to his second form before you start the fight.
-Broly (first form): Slow and weak, and cumbersome and difficult to use. Start in Legendary form.
-Super Buu (Gotenks Absorbed) His Blast 2s are Galactic Donuts and Special Beam Cannon, both of which suck. Any other Super Buu has great Blast 2s, including Chocolate Beam.
-Nappa: Slow, easy to evade projectile attacks tarnish an otherwise good character. Fortunately he's redeemed by the Great Ape form.
Guldo: Slow and tough to control. He can reach Max Power mode quickly, but it's tough to connect with his ultimate. Not to mention his other moves are pretty worthless too. Even the Volley, his one useful blast attack, doesn't do a whole lot of damage.
Captain Ginyu: If you change bodies, you don't get your foe's body. You get the body of a random Frieza era character, and CAN NOT USE THEIR SPECIAL MOVES!? WTF!? Way to totally ruin a cool character. They didnt have this problem in the original Tenkaichi, why tarnish the guy in this game?
Androids 19 and 20. They can't charge their Ki. physically hitting the enemy is the only way to get Ki, making these guys pretty worthless. not to mention their standard melee combos suck, and their other attacks are predictable.
Roshi/Grandpa Gohan/Tao: They suck at flying and have pathetic attacks and lower life than the other characters. MASSIVE delays when using the Kamehameha, too. AVOID, unless you want a challenge.
Tien/Chiaotzu/Android 16/Majin Vegeta/Saibaman: All of these characters Ultimate Blasts are suicidal, and the damage dealt with these kamikaze moves is absolutely pathetic. Tien and Chiaotzu have the Dodon Ray, which is very inaccurate and predictable, as well. Android 16's fist blast is also predictable.
Piccolo: WHY, oh why, did you make one of the coolest characters in the series so crappy in this game!? His ultimate blast is horribly inaccurate and barely does any damage if it hits. The Special Beam Cannon, regardless of who is wielding it, sucks in this game, because it both has a delay and is inaccurate. His only good move is the Light Grenade, and even it's useless if launched at a distance.
Cell Jr.: Ultimate Blast is a horribly inaccurate Kamehameha. Low life. Lousy projectile attacks. High Speed Rush is his only good move, and even that's useless against big characters.
Hercule: Do you really NEED an explanation on this one? VERY low life, lower than anyone else in the game. the same crappy flying as Roshi, Grandpa Gohan, and Tao. When he hits an enemy with a standard attack, THEY DON'T EVEN FLINCH. He's obviously a joke. Note however, he's NOT all bad if you know what you're doing - he comes into battle with a full Ki gauge, and it's quite possible to cheese an enemy to death with King Of Dreamers. But don't risk it, okay? Pick someone else.
Vegeta (Cell and Buu saga forms): Final Flash and Big Bang are slow, predictable attacks.
Trunks (sword): No melee blast 2s whatsoever (except for his ultimate in SS form), not to mention his energy attacks are slow and easy to avoid. You're screwed if you're up against a foe that likes to cheese you to death with melee strikes.
Trunks (no sword, Ultimate Super Saiyan form (AKA Super Trunks): sucks for the same reasons Trunks with sword sucks. Read above. Except this version REALLY has no melee blast 2s, not to mention he loses a LOT of his speed.
Great Saiyaman/Videl in both forms: No projectiles so you're screwed against big guys like GreaT apes. Fortunately, Saiyaman Gohan can detransform into forms with projectiles.
Supreme Kai/Kibitokai: Pathetic combos with his standard melee attacks let the enemy get the best of you when you least expect it, not to mention his special moves are nothing spectacular.
Frieza (all forms but 4th form 100%): Death Beam is one of the crappiest projectiles in the game and is insanely easy to evade. His only really good attacks are the melee blast 2s, and not every form has them. Not to mention even those are useless on big guys like Great Apes.
Cyborg Frieza: Take Form 4 100% frieza and take away all his good moves, and you're left with this metallic hunk of junk. Death beam sucks, we've been over that before. Fissure slash is almost as bad. To use his blast 1 to reach max power, you need THREE blast stocks (this was ok with form 4 100% since he had good moves to keep the foe at bay with, which this guy doesnt.)
Cell (all forms): This guy sucks in every form. He has the worst projectile attacks in the game (special beam cannon, death beam, etc.) Only in his Perfect Form (not the reincarneted perfect form) does he have a useful one - Destructo disc. but as a whole this guy is disposable.
Gotenks (all forms beyond the first): This guy has nothing but inaccurate projectiles as Blast 2s. If you're gonna play Gotenks, be him in the first form, so you can at least have the High Speed Rush.
That's all for now. More to come later, possibly.
