How did the CIA first find out about Harry?

When Palmer first reported the situation to his superior, I remember they identified Linda as the person who turned the disc to the Russians. They also mentioned Linda was an "associate" of Harry Pfarrer, who happened to be working for Treasury and also screwing Osbourne's wife.

But how did the CIA even find out about Harry in the first place? They got their first bits from Osbourne and from the Russians, which helped them trace back to Linda. But how was Linda related to Harry at all? How did the CIA find out her association with Harry, besides that Internet dating thing?

This is the part that got me confused the most. Also why is Harry's name on a hot list, that he was stopped from flying to Venezuela?

By the time the first report is made Clooney has killed Pitt in Swinton's home, which was under surveillance because of Malkovich's involvement with the important shjt McDormand/Pitt gave to the Russians. Simple detective work could (should) have linked them with phone records, surveillance, and other investigative methods (waterboarding, etc.).

Clooney is on the list because he murdered Pitt.

I think...
