Opening Credits...HELP!!!

Whoa, not a lot of posts here are there? I think it's a brilliant show. I have searched high and low and cannot find the answer to my question: Who is the artist/composer of the haunting classical piece that is played during the opening credits of each episode? I've heard it before and I'm sure I should know it, but I don't. It's driving me NUTS!!!! Anyone? Yes, I've checked the PBS site. I think it's such an obvious piece, they figured everyone would know!!!

Haha yeah, it's a commonly used piece but I think they should list all the music anyway. But to answer your question the song is "Moonlight Sonata" by Beethoven.

reply

See? I KNEW that; I just didn't know I knew it...ya know?

Thanks.

IMHO, one of the most beautiful songs in the world. Powerful, but tender at the same time.

yeah brilliant show -- i want to know what music played on the segment discussing bernini

reply

"Moonlight Sonata" indeed, and if you're looking for it, may I suggest the Evgeny Kissin recording? Brilliant throughout, but the power and fluidity of the third movement in his recording makes every other version I've heard sound flat-footed or awkward. A truly jaw-dropping interpretation.

Thank you so much! I will try to find that recording. Something about that piece always makes me a little weepy. Very powerful.
