Boys Over Flowers vs. Meteor Garden

Okay, Meteor Garden had been well unconventional, hilarious and fun. It was quite riveting that there’s no wonder everyone in Asia got hooked. Though the characters had been oftentimes unbelievable and the plot had been a few times too over the top, that just makes up the show and the basic reason why everyone is glued to it. Besides, who wants to watch boring shows anyway?

Now here’s my comparison:

DAO MING SI (Taiwanese)—he’s hilarious. He’s dumb. Easily amused and easily pissed off. Ill-tempered but in a funny way. Spoiled. Immature.( This overall explains why even though he’s old enough he bullies around.) An unconventional fighter for love. His relation towards Lei, among other F4 members,is clearly shown—he envied Lei like a jealous kid, and at the same time intimidated by him for Lei could see right through him. Yet he’s his bestest friend! Has excusable anger issues, afterall he’s that stupid which makes it all funny.

GO JUN PYO (Korean)—he’s not hilarious but real scary! He’s not dumb but a smartass. He sure does know a lot. If he’s so well-educated as he appeared to be, why did he bully and act like an idiot kid? inconsistent, at all! Ill-tempered. Spoiled. Sucker for love and oh-so-dragging at tender moments. His relation towards JH is only shown when he figured JD got the hots for JH. Has abnormal anger issues—it’s terrfying!

SHAN CAI (T)—vulnerable but acted tough. Not perfect. Flawed just like any normal human being should be. Wishful-thinker. She’s not afraid to go so gooey with Lei. Fighter. Weak, deep inside. Pretentious. Unsure towards DMS. She’s no plain goody. Her face shows mixed realistic emotions. She doesn’t scream so loud just for the heck of it.

JAN DI (K)—not vulnerable enough. ambiguous emotion towards Ji Ho. Fights like a Taekwando fighter. Bipolar personality disorder. Unrealistically overdramatic.Plain and explicit. Anime-ish reaction. She screams because she can scream, that’s all.

HUA ZE LEI(T)—so mysterious and intriguing. Hair’s not dyed! Not a chatter, and rarely smiled. Only talks when he has to. Looks much better in playing violin. He’s smart without even trying to.

JI HO(K)—not mysterious and intriguing enough—another prop. Hair’s annoyingly and unneccessarily blonde (the blonde Hanaza Rui is only for the anime). Chatter when not needed to. Smiled when not needed to. Talks when not needed to. Not weird enough! He’s no loner, why is that when he has to be like autistic?

The Korean version must have a bigger and better and fancy production set (well it was made just recently), but it lacked the factors that got [the Filipinos]caught the Meteor Garden fever—the (unforced) comedy, fast-paced storyline, little funny and unguarded inexplicit things, Shing Ha, and Shan Cai’s outrageous mother. When DMS and SC fight, it’s so childish, doesn’t-make-sense, fight-for-a-trivial-reason, that make it so a laugh out loud. When Jun Pyo and Jan Di fight it’s scary, dragging, OA, and awkward, and trying hard. Then there’s this unneeded oh-so-explicit-long-dialogues that was only expressed on MG1 as facial expressions. They have to like lengthen the conversation as if explaining what’s happening to a dumb audience. In BOF, the cheesy and romantic moments are extended that it’s unbearable and so corny—(some are suckers for that, but not me). The other F4 members were given their abilities and all that, but I prefer the Taiwanese F4 for in their own way they have depth not needing for a more screening time and dialogue. You cannot figure who’s who among the remaining two of Korean F4 right off the bat for the characters are one-dimensional. While the Taiwanese were funny and we could understand how and why they would put up with a childish and unbelievable DMS. They’re not mere props and fillers.

Excuse me for my spellings.
Peace and Love..No nukes please…

i totally agree on many points: here's what i think

BEST LOL SCENES= BOF
BEST CRYING SCENES= MG
BEST LEADING MAN= Daomingsi (MG)he's very effective in his role..really believable, jun pyo was a little too normal
BEST LEADING LADY= Shancai (MG)she's natural and pretty but not too pretty so as not to fit in her fighting attitude
BEST "OTHER MAN"= Huazelei (MG)he's really handsome in a way that makes his silent, smart personality really cool
BEST PLAYBOY= So YiJung (BOF)he is just so cool...ken was also good but i feel i didn't find his presence very effective
BEST"4TH MEMBER"= Mei Zhou (MG)should i really explain this?
BEST BESTFRIEND= Ga Eul (BOF)her pairing up with yi jung was just...awwww
SCARIEST MOM= President Kang Hee Soo(BOF)she was really scary without having to open her mouth
BEST ADAPTATION STORY WISE= MG (BOF's ending felt a little too rushed)
BEST SOUNDTRACK= BOF(stupid for you was very good)
BEST SISTER=Jun Pyo's sister(BOF)she's really pretty and i felt DMS's sis was a little too harsh to him

Like you, i prefer the original live version...

yeah, you got it!!. BOF ending was indeed rushed...it was like they had planned for longer episodes, but something must have happened.. yeah, BOF OST was catchy.. but im still tugged at the Ni Yao De Ai..and MG really knew how to make me laugh and cry without me expecting it.

"if yu see Kaye, why we yu?"

Both were great in my opinion, I get more ideas as to what I would do if I were to make an American version of this show.
