'My kid liked it' as an argument.

Shut the hell up. A movie should be judged on whatever genuine merit it holds, not that your *beep* five year old with no taste in movies liked it. They wouldn't be able to tell whether the animation is quality, the acting is good or anything else, which is why filmakers like this have zero respect for their audience. They believe that any attempt to showcase great animation, good voice acting and a decent story would be lost on it's target audience. I can tell that it all would be lost on you if make this argument.

Movies like this are fodder for kids, so a paren can get a few minutes peace. So my kid liked it is a valid argument, of course a kid would also like better movies that more people can enjoy, but that doesn't mean there isn't a place for b-d level animation if it can please the young ones.

The only thing I liked about the movie was that it sent my daughter to sleep, so I was able to listen to my I-Pod without disturbance.

I think "my kids liked it" is a fair argument. That doesn't mean it has to meet standards of adults. I thought it was respectably put together. It's not trying to be "Frozen" with a mega budget, mega-marketing, & mega cross-over appeal. It's trying to be a good & sweet entertaining film, which it is. I thougt Martin Short's character was well-written, well animated, & well-performed.

The only problem with saying "my kids liked it" is that mine didn't like it, and they don't have very high standards as a rule.

Kids also like pooping their pants, so...

It could have some merit if the kid actually liked it.
But when some parents say "well my kid liked it", it really means they stuck the kid in front of the TV and the kid probably stopped paying attention to the crummy movie partway through.

Agreed. Kids have a low bar for standards, which is why parents SHOULD try to put good movies in front of them so they can enjoy and appreciate it. If you only feed your kid deep fried junk food, then you could use the same "well my kid likes it so that's enough for me."
