Gone Downhill

Has anyone noticed how bad Star Stories has become since the Madonna episode. It used to be so good. The first three episodes where brilliant and then came the madonna episode; I cringed at every joke (Kevin Bishop as Sean Penn was his worst preformence, until the Tom Cruise episode.) I was considering not watching the next episode but it turned out alright as did the Jennifer Aniston episode and again Kevin Bishop delivered a performance which made me ask am I supposed to be laughing.

Then I saw an add a few months later for Star Stories Series 2 and I looked up who they were doing and saw they were doing Take That. When I watched it I was disappointed, for a series Premier they didn't put much effort into it. I noticed that the acting from everyone was getting worse and the quality of writing was bad. They think beacause they won an award they can slack off.
Then I looked up the next episode, Tom cruise. I thought 'How hard could it be to spoof Tom cruise?. It turns out it must of been very hard for the writers.
After viewing it I felt so angry at how they could make this Holocaust of an episode. It was horribly acted and written. They screwed up so bad, they missed so many opportunities for good jokes. I wondered if they researched anything about Tom cruise, and the others in it, or just wrote what they could remember about them. They even had the date of the infamous Oprah incident wrong. They had it as 2001 when it happened in 2005.

This episode was worse than Epic Movie and Ghost dad, and about on the same level as Leonard Part 6. I decided I might find it funny if I watched it again. It just made it worse. Two things came to my mind How (and Why) was this episode made?
The Simon Cowell episode was bad but was better than the Tom Cruise episode but still bad. After the episode I saw the ad for The Britney Spears episode. A part of me died after seeing it and also because I knew how bad it would be.
But it turned out to be alright but still nothing worth winning an award over.

I really hope the series dosen't get renewed unless it proves itself in coming episodes.

Stop watching it then.

I tend to read posts on IMDB rather than respond. I frequently read responses like these and yet don't respond but I felt since this thread is fresh and I agree with sirtedgrave I will put in my 2 cents.

I too have been a fan of this show ever since it's Season 1 premiere. I really enjoyed the George Michael, Posh and Becks and Catherine Zeta Jones episodes BUT I too seriously felt a downward trend afterwards.

I have seen some of the media he has compared the Tom Cruise episode to; Leonard Part 6, etc. They are all on the Worst 100 movies of all time on IMDB. They seriously were bad. I expected nothing of them. I bought them with full knowledge that they were to be poor quality entertainment, as they were on the aforementioned Worst 100 movies. And therefore I didn't bother to ask on their IMDB forum "WHY was this so CRAP?". Because I already knew.

The point is, in regards to Star Stories, I DON'T know why the majority of the series, as of late, was so poor(CRAP I would venture to say but it may start a flame war). I don't want to piss off anyone. I seriously don't understand how someone can look at the first 3 and then look at the rest and say that you are comparing like with like. They are of completely different standards.

The first 3 were brilliant. The plot was interesting and followed the most well known and interesting moments of these characters lives, managing to fill each sketch with a barrel of laughs. The pace was snappy and it moved on from one scene to the next without leaving you bored.

I feel that the rest do none of this. And it has nothing to do with expectations. I NOW expect nothing of Season 2 and it still doesn't deliver the entertainment value I would expect from any average TV programme. I think it's fine when I may be eating dinner or something or maybe on a laptop, but I don't think it's really what I'd deem "comedy" anymore. It doesn't deliver what I'd expect from something termed "comedy".

The reason sirtcedgrave doesn't stop watching is the same reason I haven't. We're just wondering why someone hasn't noticed the downward slide and done something! It's like watching a car crash in slow motion. We sit their, religiously tuning in every week watching the stupid ads that pay for this show, hoping it will get better. It only gets worse! I was hooked from the start of Season 1 and I had grown quite fond of them. I can't just "stop" watching like I would with something awful like Leonard Part 6 or Ghost Dad. Star Stories wasn't like the those. It isn't just a dvd which I can "fire and forget". I liked it from the start and just want to know how no-one can see this downward trend?

Is there really any hope of it picking up at all?

How can it "go downhill" when you only liked 3 episodes though? It's not a long-running series. If you only liked 3 then it's not a huge chore to stop watching it. I'm a big fan of SNL and their boards are filled with longtime fans complaining about how they don't like it anymore, but they still watch. Difference is, they've been watching the thing for 30 years.

It's all relative. I haven't been alive 30 years so I don't really know what you're talking about. I don't watch many TV programmes religiously so the fact that I tune in every week for Star Stories means I do like it quite alot, and relative to me it is quite an investment out of my leisure time. This isn't about boasting how many seasons of "so and so" a programme you've been a fanboy of. It's about how important it is in your TV viewing life. I watch very little comedy on TV anymore. The stand ups I find on Youtube entertain me more, nowadays, than most of the stuff on TV. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw Star Stories originally and said to myself "Wow what a great programme. Finally something worth watching on TV." But it went downhill as I've said and the point of my post is to inquire whether anyone else has noticed this!

My view of the programme is not completely black and white, either. I didn't LOVE 3 episodes and DESPISE every other one. I enjoyed them all BUT I have noticed a downward trend; as in the quality is getting worse and worse. I think this season just got shorter as well.

And your only point is "If you don't like it then don't watch it." The point, ellie-58, is I do like it. I'm sure tcedgrave likes it as well. We aren't just flaming this board like people do on the Resident Evil boards; "This is nothing compared to the GAME! LOL! What a piece of *beep* we're just pointing out that this is a programme with a good premise that we'd hate to see die BUT we are watching it die in slow motion. Instead of people denying that fact (well in fact you haven't actually denied it yet) we want people's opinions on why it's gone downhill and if it can be salvaged.

So to reiterate. We're not going to stop watching. It's the best comedy I've seen on TV for a good while. It's my right to watch it and it's my right to criticise it. If the producers of Star Stories don't want criticism then they can go and make their program in North Korea for all I care. If IMDB doesn't want opinions posted on their board then I'd venture to say they might as well shut down the servers because of all the money they're wasting on bandwidth.

I do like the programme. The question is "Has anyone else noticed a drop in quality over the duration of it's ten episode running time?".

Making fun of people's suffering... yeah... great fun.

You know, wealth and fame won't make a person happy. You know who knows this best? Wealthy and famous persons. So, they are just trying to find happiness in this world, while doing exactly what we make them do as "movies stars". I'm not boo-hooing for them, doing a Chris Crocker for Britney Spears, I'm simply saying that it is incredibly hypocritical for us to publicly crucify these people when we demand from them their every secret and private moment.

People in the U.K. are the worst at railing on celebrities. The tabloids are merciless. They stalk these people, horning in on every private moment, and then they make fun of them for being in the public eye! Sick. Sad. Pathetic.

Read a book. Watch a decent movie. Paint. Write. Take up a sport. Quit watching this lousy tripe and grow up.

Well, to be honest, I can't really say that I've noticed a "drop in quality".

For my money, the best episode from Series one was the Georige Michael episode. In series two, the Take That episode was easily on a par with it.

Taking into consideration we're only talking about ten episodes, I'd say that any discussion about a "drop in quality" is exceedingly previous!

I've only watched the 3rd series, but I found it to be very funny, favourite has to be the heather mills episode.
