Black spot on Michelle's neck

Did anyone else notice the huge black spot on Michelle's neck? I can't figure it out. Did it have something to do with her sister or....?

This was never explained--I would like to know, too.

Didn't the guy working in the store who shot her mom have a black spot on his face (I think it was on his chin and neck)? I thought I noticed it on him and I was wondering if it was the actor or part of the story but then I noticed one on Michelle.

Maybe it's just a clue to the audience on who's "evil". Maybe Rachel is the only one who can see the spot and that's how she knows they are evil. Well, I mean no one reacted to Michelle's spot suddenly appearing so I am guessing it's just an identifier for Rachel.

That is an interesting thoery but I could have sworn in the begining I heard someone making fun of her scar?

This kid Michelle is a effing BRAT!

reply

Oh did they make fun of it? Ok then in that case, I don't know what that black spot was about.

I do know that I noticed one on the grocer in the beginning i.e. the person who Rachel was staring at when he dropped something in the store who later came after them. I remember wondering if that spot was just on the actor and he decided not to cover it up with makeup for the movie or if the spot was part of the story.

No arguments there. Do you think she was like that because of Miranda or do you think she would have been bratty anyway but just not as cruel?

That's the million dollar question isn't it?

Yeah, i don't think this was a simple case of a young child being a brat. Is someone bad or evil because of outside influences whether in the environment or supernaturally, is it genetic, or is it simply bad character?

My wife and I thought is looked similar to the blodd stain on Miranda during the flashback. We thought it tied into the being controlled by her.

Yeah that's probably true. I am watching the beginning of the rerun right now, though I probably won't stay through until the end.

Like I have said before, I noticed the guy who killer her mom had a black spot the first time I saw the movie. Now I am noticing that his black spot matches with up with the blood stain on the "guy" Rachel sees in the store window just prior to the incident (maybe the guy who is controlling the grocer?).

Also as another person said before Michelle is teased about her "birthmark" early on ... another thing I just noticed. Which ties in to 1) what I have said before with it being an indicator of her being controlled by her sister and 2) with your comment ...

Some of the kids in the school insult Michelle, and call her "ugly birthmark girl". MG (my boss) the guy in the grocer, who owns the film studio where this was made doesn't have that birthmark in real life. It might represent the people who are being controlled by the evil spirits. I don't think there was any indication on what Michelle would have been like if she weren't being controlled by Miranda. But Rachel does indicate that she thinks bad people in the world are only bad because of evil spirits inside of them... evil spirits that she can see. I could always confirm this with the director though.

I am working on a authored dvd of this right now, which will be available on amazon for relatively cheap. If anyone is interested, it has behind the scenes and cast and crew interviews.

Did anyone actually watch this movie? At the start of the movie some kids mention it's a birthmark and at the end of the movie when we see Miranda die she got stabbed by the rock in the neck that killed her in the same spot the birth mark is in. So it's kinda like Miranda's mark and her tie to her sister.

There were scenes in the movie where the black spot was present and other scenes when it wasn't there. I'm confused.

It was a birthmark. Remember one of the little boys singing to Michelle "ugly birthmark girl", and she makes him trip? Some people believe a birthmark is a mark of a mortal injury from a prior life. Remember Miranda being pushed away from Deborah by their father and getting a gash on her neck when she hit the corner of a brick stucture?

meg.
