“Not another ‘Anti-American’ Movie”

Until you actually put some content besides cliché plot points and twists into your film, you do not get the privilege of crapping on America. This movie is anti-American, just for the sake of being anti-American it seems. Don’t get me wrong. I can appreciate a good anti-american joke and a good film that features them. But I didn’t know if the humor in this was just too stupid, or one of those, “written by 6 of the 10 writers of scary movie” movies. I had high hopes for the film when I read about it. I was hoping for Lord of War meats Three Kings maybe. Pure disappointment…

this movie isn't meant to be anti american but anti war. only the fact that the US is a war nation makes it anti america but this is just the side affect. the actual point of this movie is how stupid war is, how they make a fortune out of it and how easy it is to manipulate the public. not only in america but pretty much everywhere.

just the idea to 'outsource' war, is fantastic

reply

i agree this movie is anti war and anti corporation. not anti American. if you think it is anti American you must be a neo conservative and if that is the case than you will never get past the anti war theme.

reply

I don't see it as anti-American since the American President-Elect was against the Iraq war. Most Americans are anti-Iraq war, please don't confuse us with being anti-American.

Some folks just can't see past the sludge of propoganda spewed daily by Drudge, O'Reilly et al.

They can't be helped.

reply

Interesting that you tar the poster with the brush of your own biases, when all he said was that he considered the movie 'anti american'.

Dr. Kila Marr was right. Kill the Crystalline Entity.

Oh, and MSNBC, CBS (the let's forge documents network), Daily KOS and others... These don't have an agenda? Gee, thanks for the enlightenment. Not too myopic are you, cableaddict?

Drudge is a hack whose headline story every day is some kind of right wing crap piece along with the most embarrassing oicture of whoever he is writing about attached to it. And just becuase he has links to other sites doesnt make him objective. It just means hes willing to take hits and click thru money from anyone.

Way to show your bias though. Funny how the NEOCON sheep always trot out the Dan Rather thing at CBS as some sort of exapmle of bias but when you ask them about the same news dept from the same network editing the Mccain interview to make him look better they just put thier fingers in thier ears and sing LALALAALALALA. Or how about how CBS/Viacom has worked hand in hand with Clearchannel to dominate the radio markets putting money losing right wing programming on in markets just to further spread the talking points?

And of cours theres the big MSNBC boogeyman. Like thier 1 rating is changing the world. While all the while the MSN homepage makes Fox look objective.

If you want some actual examples how about Disney owned ABC propping up empty shirt rubber stamping Republicans like Dana Rohrbacher in their districts for decades. Or How about how they did everything possible to S-can Michael Moores 9-11 movie? And before you start quoting some morons blog how about it had errors in in I never saw it so I dont care. The actual truth is they did it in return for 10s of millions in advanced tax breaks they took on things in florida that they ended up not building. So they do everthing they could to bury the movie and suddenly both President and then Governor Bush blame 9-11 and forgive all their tax debt. But Im sure the rest of Disney is right down the line. After all how could the the distributers of such unbiased programming like Dr Laura and Sean Hannity have any kind of agenda?

I know its the weekend so you can get back to me after Rush and Glenn Beck give you this weeks talking points

Its a John Cusack movie. Watch it or dont watch it. But keep your uneducated political half truths to yourself. Morons spouting crap are the biggest problem this country faces. Sheeplike talking point repeating idiots are more dangerous than any terrorist.

Fanboys just make me laugh at thier sad pitifulness

Here's a truth for ya.....it lost over 9 million bucks.

And it means that about 33,000 people paid to see this rot.

Isn't capitalism wonderful?

People won't pay to see privileged, narcissistic Hollywood morons spout off about their political beliefs.

Says a lot about how people don't like this crap and see it as anti American.

You Said ->> Some folks just can't see past the sludge of propoganda spewed daily by Drudge, O'Reilly et al. <<

Have you ever visited the Drudge Report site? The page is only full of news links to other sites and he rarely if ever spouts an opinion. The sites that are linked are a mix of left and right leaning but mostly sites that report on a particular current event happening. There are also links to syndicated columnists of all sorts. It isn't right wing at all, it just links to the news and opinions.

You should check these things out before you smear something or someone and you wouldn't look like a political hack with a grudge against Drudge.

O'Reilly is an entertainer he doesn't profess to be a journalist in that show's capacity. Yes he is more conservative that liberal but millions of people watch him and they are not all conservatives. It is the top-ranked program of its kind in all of television and if getting the opinions from the left and the right leaning people is what you call sludge then it doesn't say much for your intelligence level.

If you really think that this film is anti-American then it would appear you think that America is upto all the things going on in the film!!

It isnt anit-American, its anti-stupid people.

reply

america's definitely getting crapped on, the question is, by whom? this movie isn't crapping on america, it's indicting those who are.

reply

Not really.

This movie is using the fact that large corporations have basically taken control of the governments of ALL western nations, as the backdrop for a black comedy.

reply

i agree with cableaddict, we (i'm not american but this affects half the world) have a huge bank crisis which is the starting point of many other crisis just because politics didn't had the balls to stop large corporations. now who's fault is it, is like the chicken and the egg. but at the end the small people are paying for this as wether the entrepeneur nor any polititian will be having troubles to buy bread and milk. no matter what crisis still will be come.

reply

Fmor, do you have any idea what caused the banks to meltdown? Gov't and special interest groups pressured the banks to give out loans to people who could not afford loans or pay the loans back.
But yes politicians will never be in hurting and will not struggle to eat or put shelter over their heads at least not until we fight back against taxes and put power where it belongs, with the people. Gov't is always the problem and never the answer but gov't seems to think making money out of thin air and increasing the size and power of gov't will solve everything and sadly a huge portion of society agrees because they are too lazy to do things for themselves.

Anyways, this movie is not anti-American it's really just Anti-Bush/Cheney and how the movie makers perceived them to have handled the war in Iraq.

I am a super conservative person and I thought this movie was pretty funny. It was an over-the-top satire and in some instances it crossed the line and was way far off (its portrayal of soldiers) but some of the stuff was pretty funny. LeBron James as part of a terrorists negotiations...thats pretty funny

We must always remember that government is never the answer to our daily problems and that a corrupt government will never seek to eliminate taxes.

You're views on the banking crisis are painfully incorrect, and right out of the rt-wing propaganda manual.
But I digress... not the place for such a discussion.

Loved the movie.

Gabba Gabba Hey.

reply

why is that not the place for such a discussion?

that's the point of the movie. make people think(talk or write) and not just feel superior and be quiet.

reply

You digress? More like you diverge, cause you don't know, or are not quite sure, what the liberal slant on the economic crisis is. It's pretty tough coming up with believable spin when Youtube has posted umpteen incriminating vids featuring the back peddling Maxine Waters, Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd all stating that Fannie and Freddie were solvent. Oops! I guess they were wrong and now we pay. If you've got incriminating GOP fingerprints on the recent crisis let's hear 'em. Otherwise stand down.

reply

The simple truth is BOTH the left and right contributed to the banking crisis. Look at the campaign contributions, ALL the Washington politicians are owned by those they are supposed to regulate.

You need a brain to understand the movie. Nothing you can do.
anti-American? Who isn't ! I don't even understand why you are all so proud to be American.
You are all obese , stupid , war-happy freaks.

Much like all Britons are scrawny, fag sucking pantywaists, right? I know I'm a little late on this post but I felt it was of somewhat importance that someone take the time to point out that speaking in generalities does generally not lead to any intellectual progress of any kind.

If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit!!!

It seems that in this country, people are starting to think that whatever is anti-America simply must be correct, when in fact things are not that simple. There are definitely other nations that practise horrible customs, but because America is less likely to retaliate or ban these films, it is just easier to make anti-American films and other propoganda.
By the way, I agree that Lord of War was a much better film with a similar, but better formulated, message.

Certainly most other powerful countries do (or have done) the same kind of crap we Americans are doing these days. It's just that America is the most powerful (right now) and naturally is doing the bulk of the stuff shown in the movie.

I might add that from interviews it seems that John Cusack feels a responsibility as an American to do what he can to address what is being done with his tax dollars by his government. Either way the film is clearly aimed at government and corporations, not America in whole and it's people. In the film the people are unaware of the truth, lied to by the powers that be, just as in real life..

reply

I don't think this movie is anti-American fella, I think it's anti big business. Which is, automatically, by it's nature a global thing.

Anti-Capitalism isn't always Anti-USA & Vice Versa.

I thought part of the point of film was that nations were being replaced by business? Thus making it non-national.

reply

"High hopes" ="Expectations". Expectations are planned disappointments. This movie was not anti-American, it was anti-dumb-conservative-Bush/Cheney thinking. Because a movie criticizes an American attitude or point of view does not make it Anti-American. For instance, the movie satirized the music industry everywhere, not just America, and criticized big business' dependence on war everwhere, not just in America. I thought it was great. (Especially Hilary Duff basically lampooning her own industry. That was priceless.) But then I'm just another tree-hugging, America-hating liberal.
