what are the 'actual events?'

Reading that this movie is based on actual events has piqued my interest in seeing it. On what event(s) is this movie based? A Google search for Scarlett May, or Scarlett May 1958 murder only shows me pages related to the movie.

There are no actual events, it's entirely fictional. The clue is in the plot on IMDB, "based on the (unpublicized) murder". Ask yourself, how likely is it that a murder like this would be unpublicized?

It annoys me but Hollywood has always done things like this, their 'true events' are everyone else's 'entirely made up'.

That really sucks. But thanks a lot for the info!

It's based on the first script written for the movie in which these events take place. Judging by the ending to this movie, I'd say it had no script re-writes,
but the script may well have read "scene takes place in Universal Studios Back Lot" but it would cost to much to film there, so it gets changed to filming it at some guys house who thought it would be cool to see his own place in a movie. There for, the original script's reading was changed, and that's how you loosely base these things on a true story.
