Martha Burns' accent
That Southern accent -- excuse me, drawl -- was all over the place. It came and went, got stronger, lighter, etc. Sure took away the character's believability for me. :-(

shareThey actually could have used her short-coming in a positive way, showing that she put the accent on while in Texas or on the hustings. As a political trick.

"Why do people always laugh in the wrong places?"

I noticed the same thing and it was only one reason Martha Burns did not adequately "fill Mary Miller's Texas boots." She was unconvincing as a national Republican superstar from Texas (and that may not be a totally bad thing!). Martha is a talented actress, but too "light-weight" to successfully portray a hard-driving, billionaire US Senator from Texas. Might have worked if Mary Miller were from North Dakota or Idaho.
