Good start!

I just saw part 1 one CBC. Great start if I do say so myself. I’m not going to post any spoilers, but I hope some of you can catch part one before part two airs next Sunday (8-10 PM EST)

What I will say is that, Paul Gross (McLaughlin) acts so well in this series. I don’t even care that the character is clearly a liar and cheat. I still cheer for the ‘bad guy’

I thought it was a good watch... Hope they give me my country back next week though.

I liked the first part, myself. Sure, parts of it were far-fetched. Like I think it would be a LOT more than just doing things like selling water to the U.S. to make Canada merge with them. We Canadians are NOT Americans, and the vast majority of Canadians are really proud and would never want to be. The vast majority of Canadians living in the States never give up their citizenship either, at least since multiple citizenshps have been allowed. I think it presents some interesting hypothetical questions and scenarios. Also, most Canadians are contemptuous of the American arrogance they see and how they "do politics" with their retarded, very outdates electoral college system. It takes quite a bit for Canadians to like American politicians generally, especially the presidents. This one they have now has ingratiated himself pretty much to no country, except a few in Eastern Europe. We are generally much more genuinely moderate in our views. In that respect, we are more "European", which I hope never changes. We are more in touch with how the world thinks than the U.S. could be until their empire really starts to crumble, and they begin to see how things really are done in other parts of the world, and maybe they can start to really improve things, for themselves and the world at large. In any case, I am looking forward to part two, and I am hoping that Canada will be brought back as a country, or at least showing some signs of being, even though I know it's only a show.

I live in the U.S. and agree with everything you have said here. I do not consider myself a traitor, but I do take the notion of being a citizen of the world as my highest priority when deciding what actions to take. There may be more of like mind down here than you think!

reply

I second that emotion!

I also really enjoyed it!

I had trouble following it a bit at first. But then I was pulled in!

Yep, Paul Gross is amazing. I really don't like him but yet I want to see him pull ahead.

reply

it's pretty farfetched but it's well acted and quite entertaining.

reply

irishcookie Do you mean you don't like Paul Gross or don't like his character?

reply

I was in complete shock and awe when they replaced the Canadian flags with the American flags on top of the parliament buildings. That what got to me the most.

reply

Oh, I love Paul Gross! He is an amazing actor!

The character, however, is kind of a slimeball..

reply

ood, just making sure

reply

Yeah, that character is a "bad guy"... But I still want him to win. When they framed the ex-CSIS agent, I was on my feet. "Yes!" It made sense to me, I'd have done that.
