Question

Obvious spoilers follow so fair warning...

In the beginning the man coerced into killing a bunch of people whose role in all this we don't know yet, is told to throw a camera out the window and then to shoot himself in the head or they'll kill his daughter.

Why if the camera is gone did the man not just fire into the air, then lay low, then find his daughter?

It reminds me of the scene in the end of SAW (more spoilers...) when the man cuts off his own foot to reach a phone when he could have simply taken off his shirt and tossed it towards the phone and dragged it back to himself.
