well can't tell by the movie...

in the novel there's no one named Cao Ying, it's a fictional character

and in case people wonder, in the novel Zhao Yun didn't died at that campaign(First Northern Campaign), he did trapped at the FengMingShan, but later Guan Xin and Zhang Bao come to rescue......

I found it a little bit ironic, that even Dynasty Warrior had closer story then this movie...lot of things are different than the book

Out of the stuff I've seen, this movie actually is furthest from the actual novel compared to anything, including video games and manga/comic books.

Well, I believe this movie has nothing to do with the actual Epic Novel, and even less so with History: having said that, it concentrate on one of the main character, Zhao Yun, one of the Five Tiger Generals of Shu Kingdom, and rewrite and expand on him this kind of homage to one of the Great Heroes of the SanGuo.
As an invention I appreciated it; as with the two ChiBi beautiful movies here we have a new interpretation that capture some of the wonderful mental images we get reading the novel; after all even the novel is just that: as with the Shakespearean tales there is a basis on historical facts and characters, but we don't look for those in them.
Sure from the Three Kingdoms you can make 100 movies, digging out its endless characters and all their actions.
I look forward to see some more wonderful movies inspired by the other three great popular Chinese novels!

Well, there was one aspect that confused me. It appears that Zhuge has set Zilong up to act as a diversion while the other generals conquer Cao's forces and take over the 6 counties, at which point they'll come to rescue him. But then Ping-An, who's been looking increasingly remorseful, admits that HE betrayed Zilong , in order to gain a generalship in Cao's army.

So which is it? Or were Zhuge and Ping-An working together - no, that wouldn't make sense.
