shareRed Cliff is a master work from John Woo. Elegant and gorgeously filmed, with peace and pacifism at it's heart.
There is also a love of ancient China which doesnt reach the same levels in Three Kingdoms.
Three Kingdoms doesnt waste any time with a back story, and focuses more on the martial arts; although it is stunning visually.
But of the two, it's Red Cliff that I'd recommend.
Red Cliff was terrible.

I thoroughly enjoyed Red Cliff 1 & 2. The extended version.
The extra scenes of character development were fantastic and added to the depth of the movie. The only complaint I really had with the movie was some of the repetitiveness of the battle scenes as at times I kept thinking, didn't I see this horse and rider fall exactly the same before only a couple of minutes ago?
There were a few other occasions of similar thoughts during some of the battles.
Red Cliff is better than this movie.
I thought this movie was better than Red Cliff.
Red Cliff added way too much nonsense for my liking.
I hated that plot angle with Cao Cao staging the war of Chi Bi because he secretly desired Xiao Qiao and those scenes with Sun Shang Xiang being a spy in Cao Cao's encampment.
I just watched it last nite. Still like Red Cliff much better.Red Cliff has " strong story line ".
3 Kingdoms is OK for me. Althought I don't like Sammy Hung in there.Again, like his previous movies, he's still kinda like a joker for me. But,boy,he got very beautiful wife! His kid is an actor,too, now
Yes Red Cliff has some good stuff in it. From all the Asian medieval clash movies I've seen, Red Cliff, Three Kingdoms and Warlords are the best so far. All have there pros and cons, but the pros outweigh the cons where others do it the other way around heh.
