The son's original offence

I know this is based on a true story but the son, Jason, could've beaten that charge, I reckon.

Firstly, on the laptop in the opening scene Jason tells Craig he won't accept the drugs. That conversation would have been recorded by the DEA and would be evidence of Jason refusing to commit an offence.

Craig sends him the drugs anyway, despite being told by Jason not to do so. Jason accepts a delivery at the door from a courier without knowing what is inside the box. If Jason, having just accepted the box, declined to open it there would be reasonable deniability coupled with the laptop conversation. Jason could claim that he was expecting a WWF DVD from Amazon should the DEA knock on his door and politely ask him, "What's in the box, Jase?"

Any lawyer worth his salt could've got the boy off in that scenario. Instead, the silly beeper goes and opens the box...
