Hands down Dwayne Johnson's best acting

Having seen all but a couple of Johnson's films - hands-down his best performance. I was actually blown away with the depth he put into this character.

I find it ironic how they call are comparing this to Broken City, The Last Stand, Parker, and Bullet to the Head. Reason being - Johnson is actually showcasing his ability here...the others are just cheap action flicks.

Hope Dwayne does another role like this at some point. More hope that Pain & Gain and Fast Six don't lock him back into the "bash em, blow em up guy" he's always been classified as. Except when he was busy as the Tooth Fairy! ;)

Agreed, he really proved that he's more then just an "action" guy. I enjoyed those films you mentioned, but I too hope he does more serious roles like this.

He already did another serious role in which he was the bad guy---FASTER---which is actually a pretty good tough & dark revenge action drama--he's actually scary as hell in that one---for whatever the reason, even though it was well hyped because he was in it, it still flopped, oddly enough--I never understood why. Still a good film to watch, though.j

Just saw SNITCH (at a theatre) not only did it kick some serious a** AND was a damn good film on top of that. Very dark, gritty, realistic and tough (those facts the agent told the parents about the mandatory minimum sentencing are real---look it up.) The funny thing about this flick is that I don't remember ever seeing a trailer for it on TV, and I found that kind of strange considering that the Rock has two more films out---which is good, because he's finally become that big box office star he's shown he could be. Other than that, it's genuinely suspenseful in some parts, especially when Matthews has to deal with the cartel as well as the local drug dealer Malik--and yes, Mr.Johnson did bring a lot of depth and angst to his character--he did the part some real justice (the fact that he usually brings some realness to the screen helps big time.) After FASTER, I'd like to see him play more bad guys, which is why I might check out his other new flick,PAIN & GAIN.

He wasnt really a bad guy in Faster. If he was he would have killed that preacher guy. What he did in that movie was get revenge on people who brutally murdered his brother and tried to kill him.

Totally agree that this is Johnson's best acting performance to date. He showed that he can do more than explosions (though there were a few in this one) and more than just kiddie movies. The emotion he put into this performance was incredible.

I had a similar feeling about Vin Diesel when I saw 'A Man Apart.'

reply

I agree, especially with the Vin Diesel/Man Apart comparision. I think this is his best acting next to Faster. The emotion he shows in this film, specifically the ending scene where he's being ambushed was a highlight to me.

"I am the ultimate badass, you do not wanna `*beep*` wit me!"- Hudson in Aliens.

True I loved vins performance in A Man Apart and Johnsons was awesome in this movie my favorite of his acting performances.

Barry Pepper is the reason I checked this movie out (even though I really like The Rock as well), but I'm really glad I checked it out.

This is the 1st movie where I didn't see the Rock just playing the Rock, I only saw the character. Really solid movie!

Good for Johnson, I could see him getting more and more serious.

Second the A Man Apart comparison! I was thinking the same thing. Actors can surprise you.

Like Asthon Kutcher in The Butterfly Effect and Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. All actors with an incredible stigma of just being good for one thing.

All in all, a decent movie!

reply

To me, this reminded me of his performance in Walking Tall. I think they were similar characters, but I also thoroughly enjoyed both films.

reply

I agree it could bring remembrance to that role - but in Walking Tall, Dwayne is pure muscle, the guy who smashes and bashes with a grim look.

In Snitch, is a 4-dimensional human being...THAT is acting.

reply

..The Rock can do drama,, go see Gridiron Gang, his best movie in my opinion. And it's a tear jerker too. He's more than a huge physical presence on screen.

...and it's a very under rated movie. and not just a 'two demensional' movie.

...

reply

See Gridiron Gang - it was a good piece, but Dwayne is really just two-dimensional in that film. If you can't see the difference between his role in that film and this, oh well. :)

reply

I agree, hopefully this opens up more good roles for him

Completely agreed. He threw himself into the role and it was fantastic. Hopefully this will open up the doors for him to get more roles like this film.

reply

Loved it as well, can't wait to see him in more movies!

reply

I will admit that Dwayne Johnson is pretty good at acting even though he didn't started until he was 27 when a guest spot on Voyager during its 6th season. I can't wait to see him the Fast 6 and G.I Joe.

reply

I saw it today thinking it was going to be an action movie, and man I was surprised. I already like Dwayne, so I was ready for anything, but I came out proud of him and I thought him moving in the role.

The film was a great showcase for how awesome he could be given the right material.

reply

Well said...I think the Box Office draw on this film will end up lower than expectations for that very reason. The Rock's diehard fans from his fighting days might be disappointed.

Dwayne Johnson fans for his movies (like me) are thoroughly impressed. So yes, I agree. :)

reply

Snitch is his best acting, hands down...I thought he also stole Pain and Gain. He was the best part of that movie, and I personally, loved that movie.

He's come around, acting wise...its refreshing to see him not just as a big muscle bound hero. Acting chops added, his ceiling has.been made higher.

This will be by far Dwayne's best movie role for a long while in my book

My 12 year old daughter loves him in his family films, so after some research I decided to take her. It was rather intense - at one point I leaned over and whispered 'it's weird to see him scared', and she wholeheartedly agreed, eyes as big as saucers.

I do admit, I missed the pec pop, though....
